Personal reflection

To be honest, I wasn’t very familiar with 3d sketch and printing before taking this class. The only time I heard about 3d printing was when my friend who studied graphic design told me that he makes rings using 3d sketch and printing and sells them online. Also, I don’t have any background or experience in using basic graphic design tools such as Photoshop, and etc.

Also, because I was even more unfamiliar with 3d sketching than 3d printing, I was very nervous in the beginning when we started to learn about the program Sketchup. I thought I would never be able to use the program. Although it is still very hard to make the exact design I want with Sketchup, I think I am becoming more confortable as I learn and practice more in class.

A small basic idea can be developed into a big idea with 3d printing technology. I learned this while we were doing the group project. Although I only have limited knowledge on 3d sketch, I realized that the small ideas I have could be developed into big ideas working with my group members. Despite the limitation the technology has, I believe that there are lot of great things we can do with this innovative technology.

Another positive effect of 3d printing is that the products created by 3d printers can be easily shared and sold through multiple online platforms. We had multiple discussions about combining art and business in 3d digital design class. I believe that 3d printing can be one of the best methods to connect not only these two, but also other criteria such as math, biotechnology, and architecture. Almost everything can be connected by 3d printing technology.

While taking this course, I want to explore my ability in both art and business, and discover my unique ability in both areas by the end of this course.
