Personal Reflection
In the beginning of the semester, I was a bit skeptical of the structure of the class. It was the first time since Pre-K that I would have more than one teacher and I didn’t understand how three professors could teach a class and the class still goes smoothly. I was so used to a normal structured class semester, that this method seemed a bit off balance. However, after a few weeks, I got used to the unnatural nature of the course and learned to just go with the flow.
During my time in this class, I felt my greatest struggle was conquering Sketch Up. The program has so many components that you can work with to add personality to your objects and it really hasn’t been my strongest asset thus far. On one hand, I could say that the issue lies with my unfamiliarity with the software, but on the other hand, I think my main problem is that I compare everything I create on Sketch Up to something that has already been created. When I was told to make a vase, I was tempted to make a vase I already found in my home, when in reality I could’ve built a house with an open roof and told people it was a vase and they would have to believe me.
My greatest strength in this class would have to be fixing how things look aesthetically. I don’t really know how to create new ideas, but once something is presented to me, I can definitely make some adjustments to improve the object. I can use my eye for aesthetics and try to make it work for when I am creating a new project.
