Personal Reflection

I have learned a lot in this course. I decided to take this course because I didn’t have any background when it came to 3D printing, so it spark my interest and decided to take it the book has also been very helpful.

What I think is important to learn is the basic, and in my mind I believe is learning how to use Sketchup, which is a 3D software that allows you to create your own object. I would say that is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned at the begging of this course. Now that I know how to use this program it gives me access to my own imagination and I could bring it to life, by this I mean you can use color, letters in your object to make it unique. . I can created anything, the only rule that is to follow is that the object has to be a solid. It has to be able to be printed out.

What I’ve also learned in this course so far is how 3D printed can affect us in the future, by this I mean that it is possible that in the future everybody could have a 3D printer that can print anything, from food to accessories from the comfortable of our homes. I think that is very fascinating. Before I used to think that 3d printed objects only had to be made out of plastic, but in this course I have learned that there are many different materials that are available for print from sandstone, to gold, to porcelain.

There are many challenges that I have faced during this course and some are with SketchUp, by this I mean challenges using the program and masking it it do what I want it to do. Another challenged that I have faced is making the object I created solid. Sometimes it might look like it is, but to the computer the object can’t be printed. So I would have to go back and look carefully on what have I made a mistake on.
