Saltz Reading

I am a firm believer Of the quote that “You are the author of your own life story”  in one’s own uniqueness and creativity, everyone has some unique talent which needs to be discovered and brought to everyone’s notice. it’s easier to convince your story rather than someone else. Every time you share your story, it’s a reminder that you’ve lived it and that it has value. You’ll be interesting to tell your own story if you share your own experience to your children that includes your positive moments and your negative moments, and how you overcame them-you give your children the skills and the confidence they need to feel they can overcome some hardships that they’ve felt. An artist can become a great artist if they have a vision coming out of their own creativity based on their present or past experience. Your story will heal you and will heal somebody else. When you tell your story you free yourself and give other people permission to acknowledge their own. It’s important that we nurture and protect these memories. Things change and existence means change. So you have the power to say “This is not how my story will end”.

Artist Assignment 2

In today’s world where life has gotten complex and unpredictable, humans are facing many challenges and stress. More and more people are working from enclosed offices where they spend hours without movement. All the work is technology-based and this drains one’s entire energy and it is a proven fact that our maximum energy loss is through our eyes. I would like to design a workstation where we can create a lens which can be our eyes

ARTIST ASSIGNMENT 3

Sitting in the Kitchen I heard the water leak one droplet at a time from the faucet. I never paid attention to this voice before. But now that I sat down it echoed, and it muffled as they traveled away from the source. I was alone, relaxing in the kitchen it was oddly quiet and the noise really filled my ears with this music. My attention went across to the kitchen sink and I heard the soft noise coming from the faucet it was really appealing, and calming.

Manovich Reading

Lev Manovich breaks down new media into five categories: numerical representation, modularity, automation, variability, and transcoding.  Automation stands out to me the most, he stated, “Thus human intentionality can be removed from the creative process, at least in part.” I disagree, humans can never be removed from the creative process as creativity involves a living person. Human has the ability to think with emotions which computers do not. Computers can never have the ability to imagine or create unique or original ideas since computers run on the algorithm that is made by a human. There is a thin line that can never be crossed between humans and computers. Computers can do many human jobs but definitely cannot do creative jobs. Additionally, Lev Manovich stated, “The character, generated by a computer in real-time, communicates with the through user natural language; it also tries to guess the user’s emotional state and to adjust the style of interaction accordingly.” This is definitely a very fascinating idea and does have the possibility to be true in the future. We have Alexa and Siri who communicate in real-time (sort of) but lack human emotion. It is really hard to teach computers about emotions even humans cannot understand the emotions of each other.

Reading response to Russolo/Ubu Web

The sound I choose is Sonic Youth – Scream. The sound starts as like the old school bell rings. As it continues, it gets creepy with light yelling at the back and the sound becomes more like someone yelling out of pain. The yelling sound gets more and more deep and thick and loud. At one time, the yelling goes longer then usual. It seems like if someone is trapped in a cage and they are yelling for help. The echoes and the long tone simulate as if their sound is coming out of a chimney which is 50ft above from where they are.

In the article is states, “to excite our sensibility, music has developed into a search for a more complex polyphony and a greater variety of instrumental tones and coloring.” This relates to the sound I pick, there is no visual to what actually is the sound coming from, but just from hearing there can be multiple perspectives. Every person will hear and interpret the sound differently. When we hear sounds without any visuals, humans tend to pay more attention. For example, is there a background noise, does the pitch change, is there a difference, is it the same voice, etc. Additionally, it says, “Although the characteristic of noise is to brutally bring us back to life, the art of noises must not be limited to a mere imitative reproduction.” I agree, that sounds attract us but only if every sound has its unique sensation. If every noise sounds the same, then there are no characteristics that will arouse the hearing sense.
