The sound I choose is Sonic Youth – Scream. The sound starts as like the old school bell rings. As it continues, it gets creepy with light yelling at the back and the sound becomes more like someone yelling out of pain. The yelling sound gets more and more deep and thick and loud. At one time, the yelling goes longer then usual. It seems like if someone is trapped in a cage and they are yelling for help. The echoes and the long tone simulate as if their sound is coming out of a chimney which is 50ft above from where they are.
In the article is states, “to excite our sensibility, music has developed into a search for a more complex polyphony and a greater variety of instrumental tones and coloring.” This relates to the sound I pick, there is no visual to what actually is the sound coming from, but just from hearing there can be multiple perspectives. Every person will hear and interpret the sound differently. When we hear sounds without any visuals, humans tend to pay more attention. For example, is there a background noise, does the pitch change, is there a difference, is it the same voice, etc. Additionally, it says, “Although the characteristic of noise is to brutally bring us back to life, the art of noises must not be limited to a mere imitative reproduction.” I agree, that sounds attract us but only if every sound has its unique sensation. If every noise sounds the same, then there are no characteristics that will arouse the hearing sense.
