Isolationism was really popular in the U.S during the 1930s. Majority of congress was full of isolationists which stop the country from interfering in other nations activities. For example the U.S wasn’t put into the U.N because they felt it would put them in unnecessary wars. Also the U.S ignored any country that was getting bigger by aggression. While chaos was happening outside of the U.S, the U.S was also suffering economically. The U.S was hit by natural disaster called the dust bowl and also suffered from the great depression. The isolationism period of the U.S was not a good one since not only the country but the world was in conflict. Towards the end this period ended when the Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the U.S was forced to go to war. Some said this could have been avoided if the U.S was engaged overseas.

“Some indeed still hold to the now somewhat obvious delusion that we of the United States can safely permit the United States to become a lone island, a lone island in a world dominated by the philosophy of force.”-said by Franklin D. Roosevelt 1940
