Next Step…
The final blog, I can’t believe it is almost the end of the semester. Writing this blog makes me feel a little heartbreaking. I was really scared to leave high school because it was my comfort place, a place where I play a certain role and developed relationships with those around me. I was scared wit the idea of leaving it, leaving my identity. I am happy that Baruch has these LC classes because it helps you slowly shift into a more independent environment. After researching clubs and going to many events, I finally join one club that I feel like it is the “place” to be in. Joining the club leading me to form friendships with older students. I am very thankful for those friendships because they have many useful advise to offer about being a freshman. Join this club also lead me to become friends with members of other clubs.
I had used the tutoring center for help in math class, with homework and test review sheets. I also made an appointment for the writing center; I hope to use this appointment to rewrite my essay. I had used the library for online research and for borrowing books.
For our community project, we used online resources that were recommended by our Liberian. Besides the online resources, I think the John and Mr. Medina has been the most encouraging people. This projected gave me a chance to work with other students and during the process I had the chance of getting to know them better and becoming friends. I think the hardest part of this project as finding the right organization to fits your passion and also getting in contact with the organization. I think base on my research of our organization, I learned that feeding hungry is one thing, but it is extremely important to help people to become independent. I think Google Document was one of the most important device I used during this project and it will be one device I will continue to use in the future for any kind of group work.
I guess this is the end of the journey, 再见!
(There is no word for “good-bye” in Chinese, only for “see you again” so I hope will see you again in the future.)

Finding Your Limit
Instead of doing my theater review for The Doll House, I am here writing a blog. College is hard, I can’t lie about that. I’m struggling alone and trying to keep up. The worst part about college is finding your limit. We were raised to believe we are unstoppable but that is a lie. we go through 12 grades of education passing by without an effort, but now we are in college. When you try so hard and still fails, it is like a slap to your face. When you know you give it all and still fails, it is another slap to the face. When you feel like a failure, how do you get out of it? How do you escape from this lingering feeling that this is as far as you are going to get. How do you escape from all of this?

Baruch honors program offers more opportunities than I can dream of in a public school. I spend four years at a CUNY campus and I was extremely surprise by the environment of Baruch, it was a wonderful surprise. It is lively and full of people here and I am trying to find my spot on this campus. But it is hard to find a place for myself in such big campus, at High School, it was easier because there was only 104 student and I was the crazy Asian girl. so who am I at Baruch? I was surprise to get accepted by the Honors program because it was extremely difficult to get in. Now that I am in the honors program, I am not sure what my role will be. But I know that I have to try my best because the worst types of failure are those who did not try. There are great amount of resource being offer to me and I cannot let those go to waste. It has only being few months since school started, but I feel like I have already change a lot and I can not see my future clearly but I hope I end up happy even if it is a desk job in a cubicle.
I’m a mother; I like to take care of other people because it gives me the feeling that I am useful. As I was growing up, I went through a phase of being a bad girl. But I was lucky to have a mentor that can help me grow out of it and become a wonderful adult. All children need a positive influence in their life, either at home or somewhere else. I hope that one day I can be a positive mentor to somebody and help him or her through life. I hope I can make a positive impact on somebody’s life like the way my mentor made an impact on mine. Maybe one day I can become a teacher, teaching a subject I love, mentoring my students, and traveling around the world. It sounds like a bright future.

Dear Prince Charming
I change the theme of the blog to a seasonal theme of Fall to give my blog a more of seasonal feeling. Fall is a beautiful time of year when the leafs are changing colors and falling slowly to the pavement and creates a sidewalk of bright colors. Fall has its downside of being the raining season and it makes the world just a bit grayer.
I want to say I’m extremely glad to be in this LC class because all my classmates are extremely special and talented. I’m sure one day I will see them on T.V. and I can proudly tell people I knew them during college. Nobody is like anybody else, everything has their own special talent, ability, and interest. They are passionate for them as well and that is pretty amazing for me because it is hard to find students who has a true passion for a subject besides money. Everybody is also very helpful and nice, when I’m in trouble, there are always people willing to lend a hand. If you are reading this, I want to tell you that you are amazing and I’m glad we are in the same LC class.
My favorite song of this moment that is not a song yet is call “Dear Prince Charming”

Journal #1
My name is Jieqiong but you can call me Summer. I grew up in China and was raised by my Grandma. When I was born, my grandparents wanted to leave me on the street because I was a girl. My Mother went against their wishes and kept me. Without my Mother’s help, I might have ended up working in a sweatshop or worst. To make sure I had a future, my parents came to America where I can get a free education and go to college. My parents left their families and friends behind to come to a world that they barely knew. My parents overworked themselves to put a roof over my head and food in my mouth. My parents have sacrificed so much of themselves for me and I am grateful for it. This support creates a pressure to work hard and return the favor because you cannot live your life being in debt to other people.
I was expecting college to be similar to high school in the environment but different from high school in teaching. Many people complain that CUNYs do not have the typical college experience. After four weeks at Baruch, i disagree with those people. although Baruch does not have a large campus, it does have a lot of student actives. There are always clubs or organizations promoting events and welcoming you to their clubs. Recently I rushed for a co-ed fraternity and i am having a lot of fun. Everybody at Baruch is very nice and helpful and it makes Baruch seem like a second home. Unlike the teachers in high school, professors at Baruch have a passion for their subject and they also have special knowledge in the subject. this makes learning and taking the class very enjoyable.
My hope is to keep my grades up and survive my first semester of college. I am very worry about my writing skills because writing is such important skill for most of the college classes.
My favorite song at this moment is “Go Away” by 2NE1. 2NE1 is a Korean pop music group.
