Small baby steps but the footprints of a giant.
Welcome back to another post with yours truly, Sanjit ” I wish there was a South Asian Power Ranger I could idolize” Gill. Recently, my group and I completed the presentation and proposal form for the Community Service project and it’s really taught me a lot about all the yet untapped reservoir of opportunities for guidance and expert help at Baruch. I hope that made sense, it was my attempt to sound really fancy. The writing center, for instance, is a great place to get help expanding on ideas and putting things down in words.
I have joined a group called BaruchTV which will probably make up a big part of my college experience. It’s a new group/club/I have no idea what it is exactly, but the idea is to increase awareness of all things Baruch has to offer and increase school morale. I’m really optimistic about the group even though it just started and had only one meeting of only 4 kids but hey, slowly but surely. I’m really optimistic about the group because it’ll enable me to meet many people from all sorts of clubs. I hope BaruchTV really takes off.
As far as where I see myself in three years, I have no idea and I can’t even begin to speculate. I have an idea about majoring in Finance but then again, I’ve changed my mind about five times in the last month, so don’t hold me to Finance. I would love to work and take internships all over the place, and not just within the business and financial sectors. Maybe volunteer time at the Botanical Gardens, that sounds really relaxing. I just really want to take my college experience one small step at a time and see where I end up instead of sticking to a strict plan. I’m not really one for plans. That might hurt my GPA.
Till next time.

“The Community”
Hi there, I hope your enjoying your day. Welcome back to another post by your’s truly, Sanjit ‘I once gave a grizzly bear a hug’ Gill. Today we discuss the community. As Baruch Scholars, we’ve been given an opportunity that not many young lads and lasses our age get; a free college education. Whereas many of our peers might leave college with a ton of debt or have to work through college to pay for their own education, we don’t have to worry about that. In return, I feel that we are obligated to give back, not just to the school that has enabled us to have a great college education, but to the community as well. What good is the knowledge we gain in the classroom if it can’t be implemented for the benefit of the community? Within Baruch, we can get involved in programs such as Student Government, environmental clubs, Team Baruch, etc. to help facilitate stronger, better, and a more enriching student life for our peers. Within the community, we are obligated to help out in any way we can. So if that means I need to assist a young lad that is having trouble talking to the pretty little lady he likes, or pretty guy (I don’t judge), I should do my best to help the little tot out. Any way in which we are making a positive impact on a life within the community. That stretches from helping the elderly across the street to volunteering hours and hours towards cleaning the park. Any way in which anybody in the community, whether it’s a 6 year old kid or an entire building full of the elderly, is being positively influenced by your actions, is community service. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed these last couple minutes and are inspired to tune in again when I write about Next Steps…. I guarantee it will be a treat. So long folks, stay safe.

Where have I been? I think the better question is where haven’t I been. I grew up in Jamaica, Queens, the same place where 50 cent was shot three times. My parents weren’t exactly overloaded with cash money so I grew up with some humble roots, roots I will never forget. When it came time for me to start attending school, my parents moved around a lot to find a place with a good school. That was PS131. The school was good, I was just a complete deviant. Both my parents worked all the time so I had to teach myself a lot & I didn’t even understand the English language so I had to take ESL (English as a Second Language). I was made fun of because I couldn’t understand English and to cope with all the kids making fun of me, I did stupid things to get people to laugh because to me at the time, it felt like they were laughing with me as opposed to at me. I also had this crush on this girl in Kindergarten because I fell back in my seat and I started crying and all the other kids thought I was joking and she came over and helped me up. She was the only person from my kindergarten class who was in every single one of my classes all the way through fifth grade. She was pretty cute, I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t exactly a player though. In fourth grade she asked me for my pink crayon, I had some cool crayons at the time ( A cool box of Crayola), I think that was probably the most romantic thing that ever happened between us. If you’ve ever seen the AXE commercials about Susan Glenn, they are all over the place, she was my Susan Glenn.
Junior High was boring. Nothing eventful happened at MS216. I became very quiet because I got more serious about my grades. I took the SHSAT and I got into Stuyvesant and that’s where the Squeege was born. I was a real tiny kid when I first stepped into high school but I had this bizarre desire to play football. At first it was terrible but then I realized I was really great at running away from people. My four years of football went great because I just excelled at running away from people. That also translated onto High School Lacrosse as well.
As far as Baruch goes, I plan on taking this one year at a time. I just want to concentrate on branching out and visiting a bunch of interest meetings and finding out where I want to be. I just want to set the foundation before I start thinking about building upon that. I’ve met tons of cool people. I really love the people in my LC. I do know that I plan on majoring in Finance or Actuarial Science so if the opportunity presents itself, I’ll start building upon that with internships and the like.
