Next Steps…
At Baruch, there are many resources that students have access to, be it STARR search, the Writing Center, library data bases, and the SACC center. I, myself, have visited these places and learned that they are wonderful resources in which can help me throughout my upcoming years. The writing center has helped me write essays and revise them, allowing me to better my own english language skills. Besides these resources, there were many clubs that i could have joined. However, I did not join any of them because I wanted to make a smooth transition into my college career. As for the coming semesters, I do plan on joining a club to enrich my college experience.
Throughout my first semester, my group and I have been working on a community service project, and we intend to serve at the Father’s Heart Ministries during our next semester. We chose this non-profit organization because it supports the community as a whole, providing many programs for the needy and homeless; these programs include services such as youth/gang prevention and hunger prevention. Although it will be my first time volunteering at the Father’s Heart Ministry, it is not the first time that I have participated in these services and I look forward to serving and continuing to serve at the Father’s Heart Ministries throughout my next few years.
Besides utilizing my resources and perks as an honors student, I also want to travel around the world. Recently, i found out more details to the study abroad program, and I am considering utilizing this program within my next three years at Baruch. I am considering traveling to France, London, China or even Japan for a whole semester, in order to broaden my world view.
But hey. that’s going to happen in two or three years, so for now, i’ll slowly work on my studies and build up towards those goals.

What does it mean to serve your community?
While studying under the Honors Program, there are mandates as to what the students have to accomplish; this includes: a GPA of 3.5 or higher, 53 hours of community service, and participation within cultural events each semester. This seems incomparable to what we are provided as scholars and that we should continue our services to our communities regardless of our academic scholarship.
As a student of the Honors Program of Baruch, I believe that it is necessary to give back to the community through my services as a scholar. The community is a large contributing factor to whom I am today; it has influenced me to no end, ranging from the connections I have made with other people to the various life experiences I have had. It satisfies me to be able to give back to my community as recompense for what I have taken from it.
As a scholar, I believe that academics are not everything, rather, personal growth is needed as well. Through my engagement within community service and cultural events, I feel that it allows for a strengthening of my relationships with my peers and other members of the community and for the development of my own self image as a scholar.
The Honors Program at Baruch allows me to do all of these things and even more. I feel that through this program, I will be able to grow more as an individual, as well as being a part of the larger community and that these factors will contribute to making a better me and a better community.

Where Have You Been and Where Are You Going?
Greetings.
My name is Stephane He. I was born in Paris, France and moved to the United States shortly afterwards. I come from an immigrant Chinese family and I am the first of my family to obtain higher education. I have lived in Queens, New York for almost all of my life. I have lived in Jamaica, Woodside and Flushing. I currently live in Flushing.
My family has taught me many fundamental skills, ranging from household economics to making decisions for the future, and to this day, my family continues to have a significant influence upon my decision making. My parents have also influenced me in various aspects of my life; I learned that my family poses many stereotypes upon other ethnic groups and cultures, while being very ethnocentric. I could not uphold the same beliefs that my parents shared.
I attended Francis Lewis High School; the student body is comprised of many different ethnic groups and cultures, and they all had their own beliefs. I found that it was rather difficult to adjust to this global community. Despite our differences, we shared a common goal, academics. I have been challenged by different individuals in my academic years and I feel that, by overcoming our differences, we can further excel within our studies and succeed in our chosen fields.
At Baruch College, it is no different, we may all come from different backgrounds, but we all come here to learn and educate ourselves within our chosen career field. I intend to major in Finance. I also believe that there is a global community within this generation and we need to make use of it, otherwise a large amount of potential capital will be lost.
