Journalist Sean Pamphilon did a story on several retired N.F.L. players, living and dead, who had the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which has been linked to repetitive blows to the head. The N.F.L has always had problems on enforcing helmet hits during games. Many players develop dementia and depression due to these hits, while the disease slowly kills the body. “What do you do with a 300-pound, 45-year-old person who’s out of control and is only going to get worse?” asks Lisa McHale, the widow of the Tampa Bay lineman Tom McHale. Many families are worried about their loved ones playing professional football due to the reason of head injuries. The N.F.L says that the helmets provide more protection, but the injuries appear to have worsen as the years progress. The N.F.L need somehow protect the will-beings of the players and make sure this does not happen to anyone else. Fine players heavily who hit players above the shoulders.
