My career goals consist on working hard in my family’s pharmaceutical company developing areas and organizing its structure. My main goal is to trigger the company’s growth and make it more profitable which comes parallel to gaining enough capital for exploring new industries and finding new forms of investment. These resources will be destined to the development of new innovative areas inside the company that include new brands and larger product lines to target niche or unexploited markets. At the present time we only import highly specialized pharmaceutical products; however, I believe that an expansion concerning innovative pharmaceuticals will allow the company to become more strongly positioned within the medical community.
Marketing and communication are an essential component in the pharmaceutical business. To be able to excel in this industry professionals need to be highly capable of conveying and convincing the medical community and its consumers the benefits, innovation and security of the product they are marketing, as well as the advantages the product has compared to its competitors. At the same time, it is important for professionals to have excellent oratory skills that allow them to obtain the attention of their respective audiences and attain to positioning the product in their minds. In effect, verbal, paraverbal and non verbal communication skills are essential elements needed to promote a product and depending on its promotion the product is doomed to succeed or fail. Another important communication skill that is just as important as your speaking skills are your listening skills. In this industry both direct and indirect consumers have important feedback and information to communicate to the providers of the products. Therefore, a successful pharmaceutical business professional must be able to convey clear messages and learn from feedbacks in order to maintain a strategic advantage on the products that are either placed or taken out of the market.
In assessing my communication skills I believe I have a good management of both my written and oral communication skills. My written communication skills are largely characterized as being a very expressive and detailed writer. I’m perfectly capable of transmitting a clear and concise message. I believe my writing composition and vocabulary is strong and most of the times my voice and tone are reflected successfully in my writing. In regards to my oral communication skills I have more of a trouble concerning the fact that I tend to get nervous the first time I’m in front of an unknown crowd or if I’m in front of a camera. As an international student, when speaking in a language different than my mother tongue my accent is present but does not distort the message I’d like to convey. In general, when giving presentations on information that I have studied I tend to be a good orator even though sometimes I speak faster than most people would feel comfortable with. However, based on my past experience, I feel comfortable and confident about both my written and oral communication skills and have no problem giving presentations or writing proposals. Moreover, I must say that I would like to improve and learn ways to give powerful and confident presentations and improve my networking skills.
My major is MS in Marketing. In terms of my career goals, I aim to work for a consulting company that helps with brand marketing or a retail company that sells different brands fashion products, like Barney New York. My career goal is entering the industry of fashion.
Marketing communication skills are very important to my career path. Most fashion products are not basic necessities, like food and water. It could be a big difference for people to buy or not to buy depending on good marketing and bad marketing. As a fashion marketer, I should be able to communicate accurate messages to my boss, colleagues and subordinates. For an example, if there is an upcoming event or promotion, I may have to make sure a consistency exists between marketing strategies and recent trends. As trends are changing extremely fast in this industry, marketing strategies are changing too. A lot of communications are required to make sure everyone with the accurate and updated information. In addition, I also need to be able to make my words sound convincing to my customers. I think having a good idea in my mind, putting my idea into a logic way, and using fabulous words to upgrade the idea are critical skills to convince a customer.
Both written and oral communication skills need improvements for me. In term of the assessment of my written skills, I would expect more varieties of words and patterns in my sentences, as well as an appropriate form and layout to different kinds of business writings. The other criteria would be the extent of understandable. English is my second language. I hope I will be able to deliver more accurate and easily understood messages.
To access oral communication skills, I wound say the ability to do speak in front of a group of people with myself well understood is the first priority to me at this stage. Then I would work on the fluency, accent decline and choice of words. Furthermore, at many situations we are only allowed to prepare a pitch or speaking within a short and limited time or even no time. The flexibility to organize a pitch may be another assessment to me.
The most thing I need to improve I consider is the writing papers. I have received many comments saying my writing is well organized but the language or the way I put words is weird. You might see some areas need improvement in this post. We use writings every day and all the papers can be kept as records. In my future career, I do not want to write down something which is not what I intended to write just because of my lack in writing skills. I also believe a good presentation partially relies on a good draft.
As someone who is facinated by words and their many implications, I truly look forward to having the chance of improving the skill of communicating effectively. Effective communication is the foundation of success as well as a neccessary prerequisite for almost any proffesional career. Perception is the archeitect of all reallity, and most facinating to me has always been the role well crafted words play in shaping such perceptions.
I am pursuing an MBA with a focus on real estate and finance. Real Estate to me has always been as much about an experience as it is practical. In other words, selling real estate needs to be about painting a picture. The more beautiful the picture, the more succesful you are at selling it. Beauty is “in the eyes of the beholder”, therfore for each person, beauty is something else. Having the skill to masterfully paint such a picture or experience with well crafted words is therfore an invaluable asset. Honing and perfecting the ability to communicate and connect with people is an essential and vital tool to being succesful.
Progressing in this class will give me a chance to work on a range of areas. Particullarly, I hope to work on being able to formulate ideas in a more effective and timely way. Often, I know inherently what I am feeling but have a hard time translating those thoughts into words. Choosing the right words and doing so seamlessly– without much deliberation– is an area which I hope to improve upon.
From the outset, Wreden encapsulates — just perfectley the essence of a flawless 30 second pitch. In his example, Barnett establishes a personal connection, an “anchor” (in a very smooth way), and a “launch pad” for futher dialogue (what benefit there is/ selling the idea). All this is relayed in some twenty-five words.
In my 30 second pitch, I lacked the finesse necessary to communicate, persuasively, my case. I did make the connection while introducing myself, but I did not convey it in a confident enough way. There were too many “um’s” and a lack of fluidity.
With respect to “knowing the goal”, I knew my goal, but it wasn’t delivered in a polished enough form. I need to structure my pitch so that I convey, more strongly, the benefits the recieving party has in my proposal. More importantly, why they should reach out to me again to follow up.
Finally, in terms of body language, a rigid delivery is always a killer. I need to exude a more relaxed and natural persona when delivering any form of inter-personal communication.
