I want to improve my communication skills in a classroom environment. It is extremely nerve racking for me to stand alone in front of a number of students to present. Anxiety builds up and I start to get sweaty palms and get sweaty in other body parts as well. It doesn’t get any easier when every student in the class has their attention and eyes on you. It makes me feel as if they are observing and critiquing every mistake I make.
It is important to be good at presenting in front of a class because it helps us learn how the real world works. We will encounter projects and other assignments that will require us to be capable of presenting confidently. I, however, need a lot of improvement. I move around a lot, stutter words, and get tongue tied.
I want to become a confident speaker. I want to be able to confidently speak to my audience with a persuasive tone that grabs their attention and draws them into what I’m presenting. I want to learn how to get rid of my anxiety and be comfortable of standing in front of a class of 30+ students.
In order to become a more confident speaker, I definitely need to present more in front of large audiences. Practices makes perfect. I need to learn how to prep for a speech/presentation so that on the day of the presentation, I am well prepared and confident. I also have to learn to not be so self-conscious of making mistakes because we are not perfect, we are all humans, and humans make mistakes.
