Option 2:

Communication skills are very important in everywhere. Each president in the United States has a good skills in communication. I have to say that I am not good at communication. Because English is my second language, I am so afraid of speaking English in frond of people. Especially make a presentation in frond of classmates. In this presentation situation, the first thing you have to have is confident. It also is the most important in communication skills. If you fell shy to speak in frond of people, people would not fellow you up. The second important thing is the way you speak. Talking too rapidly will let people less understanding the context.Gestures are also important because it will give the audience an impression. “relaxed posture” will give audience a comfortable feeling. Finally you have to have a good context. You have to collect the sources, make sure how many parts you will have and divided them into different parts. To have a structure: such as first, second, third; geographically, north, south, east, west, compare and contrasts; our side versus their side; negative and positive.

My current communication style in this context is nervous. I want to be a good speaker. I can speak confident and fluency in frond of audience, also organize well. I want to be not that nervous and become a confident speaker in future. The obstacles exist on the path toward achieving this communication style are nervous and shy. As I mention before maybe because English is not my first language, I can’t feel confident to say English in frond of people.

nervous

I want to improve my communication skills in a classroom environment. It is extremely nerve racking for me to stand alone in front of a number of students to present. Anxiety builds up and I start to get sweaty palms and get sweaty in other body parts as well. It doesn’t get any easier when every student in the class has their attention and eyes on you. It makes me feel as if they are observing and critiquing every mistake I make.

It is important to be good at presenting in front of a class because it helps us learn how the real world works. We will encounter projects and other assignments that will require us to be capable of presenting confidently. I, however, need a lot of improvement. I move around a lot, stutter words, and get tongue tied.

I want to become a confident speaker. I want to be able to confidently speak to my audience with a persuasive tone that grabs their attention and draws them into what I’m presenting. I want to learn how to get rid of my anxiety and be comfortable of standing in front of a class of 30+ students.

In order to become a more confident speaker, I definitely need to present more in front of large audiences. Practices makes perfect. I need to learn how to prep for a speech/presentation so that on the day of the presentation, I am well prepared and confident. I also have to learn to not be so self-conscious of making mistakes because we are not perfect, we are all humans, and humans make mistakes.

Often times people overlook and disregard the importances of public speaking. Public speaking is one of the most critical skills we can learn as an individual and improve along the way. If the speech is delivered correctly to an audience, it can be powerful, compelling and a beautiful piece of art. Those speech are often delivered by the distinguished figures.

As you can see above, this particular picture of Barrack Obama was taken during the 2008 victory speech in Grant Park Chicago, Illinois. The speech President Obama gave that night for me is one of the most memorable, and powerful speeches I’ve ever heard. In front of thousands of Americans in the audience and millions of people watching all over the world from their media outlets. He was able to captivate these people by his public speaking skills. Firstly he demonstrated a perfect posture by standing tall among the people and using hand gestures when needed.  Second the “three C’s” means, concise, confidence, and clear speech. Throughout the speech, his message was concise, clear and he delivered with confidence. Finally, although his speech was scripted without practice he would not be able to deliver the speech well. As a result of a proper amount of practice, the audience and the people all around the world were able to feel the magnitude of the speech. President Obama not only change the history that night but also touched and captivated millions of Americans and non-American hearts and minds everywhere. As we progress in life, I am learning more about the importance of public speaking. From communication class, I m hoping to learn crafts and techniques to overcome the fear of stage. In addition, study and master in becoming a great speaker like President Obama.

Michelle Phan is definitely an inspirational role model for many people. Her success is largely due to her ability to communicate well with others and motivate females to strive for happiness. She speaks with a friendly tone, maintaining an amiable ambiance with the audience, and as a result is able to impact each individual in a positive manner.

She herself can be used as an example for many aspiring makeup artists. Her work is used and displayed for others to follow her tutorials for many different purposes, ranging from everyday casual looks to wedding looks. I have attending one of her many presentations which have been held in the States and can definitely say that her personality and talent are what truly attract the audience.

While she is introduced as a high end artist, she remains humble and amiable to the audience. She remained calm yet displayed her appreciation of her fans. She spoke with positive words such as “do” rather than “don’t”. Little details in the vocabulary she used along with her tone created a combination which portrayed a good sense of manners and style.

The picture displays one of her presentations where many people attended in order to learn more about her story and success. Her past and the way she managed to climb to a higher career allowed others to remain optimistic about their own situations. She describes the struggles and obstacles which she had to overcome to get to where she is today, thoroughly encouraging her audience to strive and chase their dreams. She uses her own personal experiences to motivate others and lift their spirits in their times of doubt.

While much of her presence is through Youtube videos, she also takes time to meet fans in person and attend event where she can share her story. The picture displays her big impact from her videos (which is resembled by the large size of the image shown on screen), at an event she attended in person as well. This portrays her status both on a social media and personal level.

A great speaker ususally get more advantage than unskill communicater. I would like to improve my communication skills in any kind of situations. I wish i can communicate with americans without any difficulties.
As an non-native American, English is my second language, my communication skill is terrible. Sometimes I am afraid to talk with other people.I am afraid that I might say something wrong and stupid and got taunted. In the class, every time that professor asked me to answer question, i was nervous and sweated and my voice was shaking most times.
I couldn’t even know what i was saying. I only got two presentations in classes. I wanna change this situation. I wanna talk with my friend normally. I wanna get better life by the communication skills.  I can’t live this world just by myself and without communicate to other people. So this class is good opportunity for me, I can get a lot practices in this class. Enough practices can make myself bravely, make my communication skill get quite great progress, make my public speaking as normal talk and make myself confidence. Option#2:
I believe public speaking will always be a huge challenge for everyone at first. It’s a skill where you have to develop overtime. I’m vocal when it’s needed it, and I’m not shy or scared to speak in public. Yes, I have my fears which is my accent and sometimes I can’t pronounce some words because English is my second language and I’m just getting use to American culture. I’ve done 2-3 presentations for my previous classes and man it was a terrible feelings. My hands gets all sweaty and my ears gets hot and I start to stutter my words. Just a horrible position to be in. However, I like to face my fears and see how far I get, if this class wasn’t required I would still have taken it because one it will help me in professional work in a long run. Now a days, you need good speaking skills to get a good position at work. Any field requires good public speaking skills. It’s an advantage to have for your career. Having said all this, my goal is to become confidence speaker and not have a bad feelings during speaking. I want to speak with confidence and not sound like I’m nervous when I’m in front of people. I’ve had more opportunity to speak in public but I didn’t because when I speak I get nervous or it looks like from publics point of view, and I want to overcome that. I think this class is an excellent way to prepare students with their public speaking skills. It is something that will stay with the students forever, and help them succeed even more.

Option 2:

Communication skills are very important to our lives. We need to communicate with other people at any time and in any situation. So we need to learn some skills that help us become a good speaker. This way is also help people easy to understand us. Therefore, I want to improve my communication skills from this communication class.

First of all, I want to improve my communication skills in class.  Sometimes, I need to discuss or present my projects in class.  I need to communicate with the classmates and speak out my ideas. I know it is very important to let my professors and my classmates understand my ideas, and I know I should speak clearly and briefly.   But I am very afraid to speak in front of people. Usually, I speak not very loudly. And my professors or my classmates would ask me to say it again and I lost my confident and start to say something unclearly. Moreover, when I stand in front of the class, I begin to scary. My feet and voice are trembling. And my brain become empty, usually I forget my idea and don’t know what I am talking about.  Also, I think my presentation is boring. It can not attract people and I don’t know how to let them get interest in it. I want to learn some communication skills that can attract people. The speech should clear and brief. It must contain the main point and let people easy to understand. It must show you are confident and convictive. English is my second language. I think it is a big obstacle exists on the path toward achieving this communication style. Also, I am not brave enough. I need to practice more in front of people and overcome those obstacles.

Sibely Anan

Siby before an interview.

My communication skills are severely lacking. I am a writer and assistant editor for Baruch’s undergraduate school newspaper, The Ticker, and I often need to interview other students and faculty for articles and features. I certainly would like to be able to confidently speak to another person without appearing unprofessional and uncouth, as I often feel like I am presenting myself. A journalist needs to be able to assuredly speak to other people in a formal context; a special value is put on appearing as a knowledgeable person and someone who would like to learn more. My current communication style is a bit lackluster, and I know for certain that there is a lot of room for improvement. I have trouble keeping eye contact, sometimes I will trail off and lose my train of thought, and I have a tendency to stutter and even freeze up. These are the things I fear will make me seem like an amateur, and will consequently bring down everyone’s opinion of me. I would definitely love to be able to speak without stuttering or freezing up; I think that may be my main weakness. I know that I am knowledgeable about the subject, and I want to be able to portray that when speaking to people. I want to build the confidence to not be afraid to talk to a person. My only obstacle is my own confidence. I want to be a better journalist, and I need to be a better speaker to do it.

One speech that had a powerful and positive impact on an audience or an individual listener is “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr.  “I Have a Dream” speech calls for equality and end of racial discrimination. One powerful message that Martin Luther King Jr. convey to the audience is that no matter what skin color a person has, it does not make them less of a person. What makes Martin Luther King Jr. speech powerful is that way he was able to connect to other people on a more personal level. The tone in Martin Luther King Jr. voice would set the mood and bring the passion out in the speech. When Martin Luther King Jr. started the speech it was moving at a slow pace. As Martin Luther King Jr. was drawing more and more people into the speech, the pace of the speech and voice would get more fast and louder as if he was speaking at the bottom of his heart. Martin Luther King Jr. speech contains lots of repetition, which allows him to make his point across more clearly and for the audience to go along with him. Martin Luther King Jr. often used and spoke with vivid and descriptive words to help bring images and emotions into the audience and ultimately draw them in.
