Concrete Citizen Meets Trill Voices

There are a lot of people out there that claim to love fashion, but there are few that can find a way to express that successfully. Taylor Thomas is the exception. The Amherst College student has built a platform to share others stories on what she calls Trill Voices. The blog that started as just a little high school experiment would eventually evolve into a platform that has given Taylor the opportunity to connect with social media influencers, Youtubers, and the future creatives of the world.

Thanks for making me look cool @akili_

After it’s launch, in 2013, Trill Voices would allow Taylor to build a brand that would not only showcase her own individuality, but the individuality of the people that she finds the most inspiring in a copy-cat world. As she shares her story in a New York coffee shop, her individuality is clear, as her big doe eyes, pierce through its subject, and her checks remain rosy throughout the conversation.

There is a certain clarity that gives her a light that cannot be duplicated as her personal style reflects an edgy cleanliness that is hard to miss, even in the New York crowds.

Although many fashionista chose to be in front of the camera, the Chicago-native’s passion lies behind the camera. She is currently studying Sociology, Film and Media studies, and pursuing a career as a director. She’s made her first steps to the path by securing an internship with Disney with their XD Channel’s department. However, she does not plan to let the corporate world limit her dreams.

Because I'm still on London time

While studying abroad in London, Taylor found a friend to collaborate on what will be her first web series produced outside of her college curriculum. “Creatively London was probably one of the best decisions I made for my career, because it allowed me to see the world that was much bigger than me, and looked nothing like me,” she says.

This film is not far from what she has already produced thus far. “All the films that I’ve made on my own are about identity, family and the ways that those personal components of who we are can be with others,” she says. The web series is currently going through the process of editing. Thomas had filmed all of the series, while she was in London, spending time between classes, surfing the Internet for actors, and exploring the city.

“Identity is clearly a concept I immerse myself in,” she nods as she begins to put the pieces together for herself. “The web series is about a girl who sleeps with this guy to loose her virginity, but then they try and figure out of there’s actually something more between them, “ she shares with excitement as she continues to sip her latte.

” When I was preparing to leave for London, I was given a list of things not to bring, and the list specifically said “don’t bring sweats, students in London go dressed up for class”,” she explains. She continues, ” that was beyond accurate, kids in my 9:00am class would come dressed in a head to toe Adidas jumpsuit and an incredible fur coat.”

As much as she adores fashion, as an American student, she would usually choose to save her nicer pieces for outings outside of campus, making her sweats and t-shirts, her go-to pieces for class. “Amherst isn’t exactly one of the most fashionable schools,” she says with a smile, “London definitely pushed me to step up my game because there is no way to tell the difference between a student and a professional.”

Thomas stands apart as she paves her own way through fashion. Her closet is a reflection of this as she opts for less mainstream pieces, choosing timelessness over popularity time and time again.

Steve and Taylor explore London

She holds her newest inspiration close to her as she talks about her future endeavors. “I bought it in London, ” she beams, “I was hesitant, with Celine bags becoming so mainstream, but I felt the black tote bought back the classiness that made Celine what it is in the first place”.

Her train of thought is broken, as she waves frantically to who is later identified as her cousin from the window. She looks up in awe, as she realizes that change has found her once again, as she rises to give one last hug. As they leave the shop in a hurry, there is no way to tell where the next adventure will take them, however it can clear that it will only lead to greatness.
