Smorgasburg Brings Fried Cookie DŌ, Lobster, and More

The first good weather weekend of the spring made it a perfect opportunity to try all the treats Smorgasburg has to offer.

The first good-weather day of the food festival season did not disappoint! Smorgasburg in Williamsburg was on and people were out in full force taking advantage of the weather and good food. New to this year’s festival is DŌ and their collaboration with Big Mozz, which brought eaters fried cookie dough.

The tray came as an assortment–chocolate chip cookie, brownie batter and birthday cake dough were deep fried and dusted with powdered sugar. It was delicious, but it was very filling. My recommendation: split the tray with a friend so you can enjoy the rest of what Smorgasburg has to offer.

There were plenty of vendors and enough options to satisfy even the pickiest of palates. Asian and Hispanic foods were some of the most common vendors this year.

This weekend was Jason Pace and Meagan Dauble’s first time at the famous festival.

“We’ve heard so much about Smorgasburg that we made a point of going as soon as we could,” Pace said. “The variety is just insane. You can get anything here.”

Another new vendor to this year’s Smorgasburg: Lobsterdamus. After huge success at Smorgasburg LA, the lobster vendors came all the way to New York where they’re having seemingly similar success.

Smorgasburg is perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Along with the fried cookie DŌ, there was plenty of ice cream, donuts and more. Pretiola’s Pretzels had a variety of flavors including chocolate, salted and rainbow.

Sam Artusa, a college student, has been coming to Smorgasburg for the past two years.

“There’s always something new,” she said. “I like that the vendors change every year because you never get tired of visiting.”

“Not everything here is exotic either,” Artusa continued, adding “something as simple as a good burger goes a long way.”

Aside from their collaboration with DŌ, Big Mozz had their own booth selling mozzarella sticks. They weren’t very good unfortunately, because my order came out a bit overcooked.

Overall, Smorgasburg did not disappoint. Check it out for yourself in East River State Park in Williamsburg on Saturdays and in Prospect Park–Breeze Hill on Sundays through October.
