Playing with Tinkercad

Turning ideas into a 3D model

Today I’ve been playing with Tinkercard, a 3D modeling software for 3D printing. I spent hours trying to build a castle with just basic geometrical shapes. I find that the most challenging part was adjusting the alignments between connecting shapes. The software makes it so that you can align two shapes in all kinds of angles so it took a lot of trial and error to figure out the alignment I wanted. The software does, however, show you previews of how the shapes will connect before you align them but the previews tend to blend between the shapes making it hard to understand the transition. Nonetheless, I had a really fun time tinkering with these shapes into a basic-looking castle. Take a look below!

I will continue to play around with the software with more complex ideas to see how else to use its many tools. I plan to first sketch a childhood toy as a 2D model, which I will post about soon. Then I will recreate the 2D model into a 3D model and see how that looks. I will post the results in another post.
