This article is about the New York Knicks starting Shooting Guard situation. The Knicks made new additions to the roster in the offseason including Andrea Bargnani and Metta World Peace.

Hours before the first preseason game against the Boston Celtics, head coach Mike Woodson said he still don’t know who will be the starting SG for the first game of the season. It would be either Iman Shumpert or J.R. Smith.

Smith was suspended for 5 games because of a violation of NBA’s drug policy and he still still recovering from knee surgery. This would probably mean Shumpert would be starting for the Knicks in October and he proved himself in the first preseason game against the Celtics. He scored 18 points and didn’t miss a shot.

I personally think Shumpert should be starting because he is a good defender, and a high energy guy, while J.R. is a pure scorer and you need some points coming off the bench.
