Apple’s Inroads in India Hit a Sourcing Roadblock

In conjunction with our reading on supply chain and production, I thought this was an interesting article. India’s 30% local sourcing requirement seems very high and perhaps protectionist, but given the massive buying potential in India it is not surprising that the Indian government has essentially set up a pay-to-play scenario. Considering Apple’s stringent control over its supply chain it will be interesting to see whether Tim Cook will cede some control over it in order to gain access to what he clearly sees a lucrative international market.
