rachelle campos suarez ~ representation post
So for this assignment I chose to use a song written by Latino Reggaeton Artist known by the name of “Bad Bunny”. I feel super connected with this song because the vibe is just immaculate. This song makes me feel like i’m floating (no joke).

Alr so in this post I’m here to talk a little bit about what I would say is one of the best shows that I have ever watched. I could fr write about so many things that I’m passionate about. But in this case i’ll be talking about my favorite one of my favorite shows on Netflix. It is La Casa De Papel (also known as Money Heist) This is a show that I can talk about for hours and hours. So, to start off it is a Spanish Series. It’s about a big robbery in Spain. But it starts off with one of the Main Characters who goes by the name of Tokyo. Now, I will try not to make this long. So, we have this one man (who goes by the name “El Profesor”) who makes a group of 7 people who all have a criminal record. He calls them in to join his group where his big plan is to break into the “Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre” (national coin and stamp factory) located in Madrid, Spain. Oh right, I forgot to mention the other members of the group. So, something else is that they named themselves after famous cities around the world, for example we have Tokyo, Berlin, Rio, Moscow, Nairobi, Helsinki, Oslo and Denver. Those were their code names. Alr, so after breaking into the factory they proceed to hold the workers hostage and it becomes very chaotic not only outside where all the police and swat are but as well as inside. Conflicts begin to arise within the crew as well. In the second season we get new people as well as new problems . I could talk about every small thing that happens but then you wouldn’t be able to watch it on your own. When i say this show put me through a lot I REALLY do mean it. This show has made me tear up uncontrollably, especially the scenes where something bad happens to one of the members :/ . I provided some trailers i was able to find on youtube so hopefully you guys (those who haven’t) take some time to watch them.
Amy Tan~Mother Tongue
In this essay written by the author Amy Tan she goes on and talks about her experience being an english language writer but not only an english language writer but one who had grown up with different “Englishes” as she describes it. Amy Tan is an Asian-American who went through so many struggles due to the way her mother expressed herself in a language that wasn’t her strongest. This whole essay was very interesting to me and caught my attention in every way. After Amy Tan began to describe how she saw her mother not being taken seriously at stores, restaurants, banks as well as by government officials because of her “limited” english it made me think about all of those times growing up where my mom would struggle communicating due to her way of speaking english. As an elementary student i would get asked to translate a letter they had received in the mail because she didn’t understand it. But as a 3rd-4th grader i didn’t know what some words meant which led me to look them up on a dictionary to in a way have a more clearer understanding on what it said in that letter. I also relate to Amy when she mentioned having to pretend to be her mother on the phone. Ever since my english vocabulary expanded as i grew up i made sure to always help out my parents whenever they need help communicating because just like Amy Tan i saw my parents get looked down on and be ignored, this would in a way make me feel guilty at times because yes i know they are proud that i understand english to the point where i can communicate and express myself clearly but it was always this little thing that bothered me because i would think to myself ” Well, i help them when i’m with them, but when i’m at school they’re on their own so i just don’t want them to go through more discrimination”. In page 82 of the essay Amy Tan says “But I do think that the language spoken in the family, especially in immigrant families which are more insular, plays a large role in shaping the language of the child”, and i agree with that 100 percent. This is because speaking only Spanish at home and English when i’m not home it would sometimes make it hard for me to express myself because i would stumble on words and get myself confused. Just like Amy said on how this usually happens with children of immigrant families. In response to one of the questions given by Professor Sylvor to think about when reading essay i would like to give it a try and i think that Amy Tan used the term “Mother Tongue” as the tiltle of her essay because just like she had mentioned in the last page i believe on how she wrote her work thinking about her audience and her chosen audience was her mother and it was something she was able to read, something that wasn’t in a english or chinese structure but it was something that allowed her audience to understand.
“the first day” written by Edward P. Jones
Can one be ashamed of their own mother? The narrator says a very intriguing line that i’m pretty sure had most of us in like a shock and that line was “long before i learned to be ashamed of my mother” , this made me stop for a second and think “can someone actually be ashamed of their mother?” because i know i can’t, yes our parents can sometimes do things that we might not like but at the end of the day they our parents and they’re there for us at all time. This made me want to learn more about the mother because i wondered what must’ve caused the narrator to say something like this. Especially since the narrator included this sentence in the very beginning, so it would make the readers curious and want to read more. After reading more i came to a conclusion that the mother wanted the best for their kid. For example when she says “you gonna go there and learn about the whole world” this comes to show that the mother just wanted her daughter to learn and have the opportunity of a good education. Which is what most parents want for their kids.
rachelle’s introductory post
Hi Everyone! my name is rachelle. Whenever i’m asked to write about myself i always seem to get stuck because i never know what to write. I know that i’m not the only one that this happens too. But to start off i was raised in Ozone Park, Queens and attended Newtown High School in Elmhurst, NY. So as you can see by the image i chose to share with you all, it comes to show that i enjoy taking pictures of the sky like sunrise/sunset views as well as taking pictures of nature and the moon. It’s something i began to appreciate for a while now. Looking at the beautiful colors that the sky portrays brings me this feeling of peace and tranquillity. Something else i enjoy doing is listening to music. Music is everything to me, i don’t think that i can put into words of how much i love music. I believe that music is one of the best things that could’ve been made. I know that there are people out there who are with me on this one, (or maybe not lol) on how we all have this one song that can take us back to a specific moment in our lives, whether it wasn’t the best moment or the best. Something else that i’d like to share is that i am very proud of my Mexican background it’s something that i take a lot of pride in. I love everything about it and let’s not even get into the food and beautiful places. I enjoy being able to go and seeing my family. Now you might think i’ve been to Cancun or all of those nice places, but that’s not the case. Instead i head to a small town in the city of Puebla which is where my parents grew up. It really makes me see life completely different from the one i have here in New York. It also makes me appreciate everything i have. In continuation to this post, i’d like to add on and say that i am very excited to meet new people at Baruch especially since it’s a school located in one of the most diverse cities in the world. In hopes of making new friends and learning things. My main focus is to be a successful student in these upcoming 4 years and to graduate as well. I know that these next couple of years will be over before we even know it, so i want to make the best out them. In conclusion , i’d just like to say that i am looking forward to this class and will give my very best.
