Janice’s Thoughts on first drafts readings

After reading Anne Lamott, “Shitty First Drafts” (in  JTC) and George Dila,Rethinking the Shitty First Draft” It made me reconsider my thoughts on first drafts. I think after reading these two pieces, I was able to embrace the fact that a first draft is not always perfect but that is okay because you could always revise and edit it to make it better. I think personally my own writing process is quite simple. I approach whatever prompt or topic is given to me and I think about how to answer it and where my opinion stands. Then I move forward in formulating my thoughts into writing and trying to put it into a format or organization that is easy to understand. To be honest, I would like to adjust my own processes as a writer because sometimes after the first draft I struggle with pinpointing and revising my own writing. What currently works for my writing process is that I kind of just trust the process and write whatever comes to mind. The most difficult part of the actual writing process would probably be actually starting the writing piece or ending it because after saying my thoughts and ideas. I struggle with concluding the whole thing after and sometimes even where to start because I’m not sure how to get into my ideas.
