Jiahua Lin Introduction

Hi my name is Jiahua Lin or you can call me by Jerry. My pronouns are he, him or his. I currently live in Brooklyn, New York but originally I lived and was born in Guangdong, China. As an immigrant from China, coming to America was a step towards a better future for both my parents and for myself. Starting out in America was at first a struggle for my entire family. My family and I didn’t speak English so getting a job and place to live was hard. Overtime my parents learned some English to adapt to the neighborhood and I attend school. I was an ESL student because I needed help learning English. At first it was hard but gradually I evolved into a normal student. As a first Asian America generation education is very important. As someone who is the only one in the family that has an education higher than high school, I must lead my future and my family to a better life. One of many things I like to do is to play sports. Sports is one way I get my mind off of things. My favorite sports I like to play is basketball and badminton. I used to play basketball everyday after school with my friends for hours until the pandemic happened. Another thing I like to do is math in general. I think I was born into liking math because I was able to use the abacus at an early stage. Anything in math regarding solving problems or finding a solution is in my interest. Math has lead me to come to Baruch college as a finance or accounting major because it is a top public school when it comes to these majors. This is a picture of two adults which symbolizes my parents. My parents has been there since I was born and has been my motivator. I think my interest in math came from them. Even during through the darkest time they have been there for me when I needed help the most.
