Homework for October 26

This short clip from a tv show that gives viewers an idea that Mexico is a very dangerous and poor environment. This representation on Mexico is troubling because it isn’t entirely true of course there are some places that have poor cities/small towns and other cities that are well off. I just think that this can be troubling because one can assume that this is what Mexico is all about based on what they’ve seen.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjT9AYy3Kfo 3:34-4:25

“Hustle” Netflix movie

I selected a scene from the Netflix movie “Hustle”. I am highlighting how this specific scene is my favorite scene from the movie because Bo Cruz the main character is training to become an NBA prospect and at first the training is hard but as time progresses it gets easier and stars to click, while the rest is history. I find the message of the scene noteworthy because it connects to myself as a basketball player that in order to really reach a high level you got to go above and beyond in order to reach your goals, in other words if you wanna be a champion you got to train like a champion. So this movie made me want to go into my workouts with a go hard 100% of the time mentality. For some people it doesn’t even have to be sports it can be something else like an artist, graphic designer, a doctor, a first responder, a business manager…etc.

Homework for October 26, 2022 – Jason Solis

I remember a few years ago when Donald Trump Delivered a speech about the Immigration crisis in the United States offending thousands of Mexicans who lived in the United States. He accused Mexicans immigrants for drug transporting, crime, and rape. I found this offensive and I was upset because it was a very controversial moment to the point where everyone was talking about it. I come from a Mexican Background so I felt that his statements targeted me and my family. He later spoke about building a wall and have Mexicans pay for it. I was upset mainly because he spoke about my country in a large audience on national television.

Homework for Wednesday, October 26th Representation – Milosis Sepulveda Barias

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/10/25/adidas-kanye-west-partnership-ends/

This article and the issue happening called my attention because I found it offensive. In this article it talks about how Kanye’s antisemitism’s cost him Adidas and other partnership he was working with. This is an issue for me and I found it offensive because no matter the situation or the color skin you are, you should not be talking bad about any other race or ethnicity. Yes, racism still exist in some parts but it is not a good reason to step on people and make them feel less of a person because of where they come from. Everyone should be treated with the respect you want to be treated. What I’m trying to highlight by choosing this media is that even the most famous people sometimes don’t think before they speak and their words affect others.

Homework 10/26/2022 Representation Jiahua Lin

The media I chose for representation is a TV show called Fresh Off the Boat. This part of the video shows an accurate representation on how Asian parents feel when their kids get good grades. I chose this clip because it is exactly what my parents did for me when I was in middle and high school. They would make me go to Saturday and Sunday school to learn advanced subjects. What I found noteworthy is that they show where Asian students go to learn subjects beyond their grade and being able to succeed in school.

Oct 26 Assignment – Tanvir M.

In this illustrative meme there is a character from Rick and Morty and a replying quote saying “You son of a beautiful woman, I’m fasting.” This meme is basically saying that during Ramadan those who are fasting use their words wisely and do not curse or talk badly as during the time of Ramadan its a time to ask for forgiveness and to repent for any previous sins. This meme reminded me of myself as during last Ramadan one of my friends at school was annoying me and wanted me to say something bad back to them since they knew I was fasting, but I had to control myself and kept my language clean when I replied to them.

Daniel Glavan Representation Media

This part of family guy is showing Peter at an asian man’s dry cleaning store and his experience in which there are many stereotypes about asians being brought up in this part. I chose the clip just because as an asian man I find it quite funny the way that they represent this Asian man in the society, specifically with the name of the dry cleaning place. They are representing the typical dry cleaner store and the way that asians run the store, from the name of it to his form of english. What I found noteworthy about this interpretation is how most of comedy is based on something that is making fun out of sensitive subjects, as Family Guy is a show that almost all Americans have encountered and is extremely famous for it’s dark and edgy humor.

Assignment for Oct 26

The Netflix show that I would relate to the most would be the show call Gentefied by Netflix in which it is the show that I can relate the most, not only because it speaks my language that I know the most. But because it has a connection with me and my culture. Especially when it comes to the topic that they are talking about for instance in this show series it talks about immigration, family issues and most importantly about family. When first watching this show i had enjoyed the most were the character as how i can related to them each one of them individually. Long story short this series was about how a family couldn’t continue on paying their restaurant that they had in which had been a family tradition that they had wanted to continue. Due to the high increase of rent they couldn’t afford to pay on the rent and had to find way to get their restaurant people. In this family it has many each member has each of their own issues such as career, relationship. It speaks a lot of the process of immigration as how the grandfather was about to get deported. The background music and the culture that this show had expressed of the Mexican culture, in which i had really enjoyed seeing in a tv series that Netflix had did. It is often rare to see any show that shows the culture in a well matter way.

Cumbia Ecuadoriano

The following picture is a ecuadorian group that plays cumbia. This represents me a lot because I too am a musician. I play cumbia too with my band but these guys play it exquisitely. I tried posting the video but it does not allow me to unfortunately. But the chemistry of each musician playing in the video is great and you can tell that they are having fun and feeling the music. Just like me, I also like having fun when I’m playing, I can feel the beat, the rhythm, and sometimes I would dance too while playing.
