English 2100 Fall 2023: What Goes Unsaid?

Women’s Rights & Women’s Wrongs:

A few weeks ago, A lady went viral for filming a man on her first date, a man she didn’t really know simply because he took her to the cheesecake factory. She refused to get out the car and started filming their conversation about what was wrong about the restaurant. Keep in mind this is their first date, they are still getting to know each other. We find out later in the video, they were suppose to go to a fancier restaurant but the woman was an hour late getting ready so obviously they couldn’t go anymore. She claims that she didn’t think she would get out late from work. The man waited an hour for her in the car downstairs from her apartment. If this was the case, she should’ve scheduled for 5pm or another day. Instead, they BOTH settled for the cheesecake factory because they couldn’t go to the other restaurant anymore. When they arrived at the cheesecake factory she got upset because she didn’t think he would actually take her. She claims it’s a chain restaurant and they should’ve went to the fancier restaurant, but yet again she was late. The man was very kind and understanding and not aggressive at all. He even opened the door for her and she refused to get out the car because she wanted to talk about why he’s taking her there. This sparked conversation across the internet about where you should take a woman on a first date. Most of the internet made fun of the woman because she’s delusional. I also agree, because I grew not being able afford cheesecake factory. Instead I ate TGI Fridays and I thought it was the fanciest restaurant ever. This shows how different people might’ve grew up and how some women want a man to go above and beyond for them even though they again don’t each other; as the first date is suppose to help them get to know each other. Personally I would be fine with the cheesecake factory, because still I am too broke for it. I’ve never went before. This shows how some women have a different definition of the perfect first date. The internet also made a list on where you shouldn’t take a woman on the first date, yet again this list is also a bit delusional. This is an example of Women’s Wrongs.

The most important warning:

This TikTok specifically kept coming up on my for you page. Every time I would watch this tiktok, it would get harder to watch. In the video, A young man and woman are in a car together. They are on their first date together. The young man was reported to be driving extremely fast which is why he was pulled over. Obviously, the woman had no control over it, but she could’ve made the decision to cut the date short and head home. There is a lot of decisions that could’ve been made to prevent this horrible accident. that took the lives of 2 people. The officer stopped them and told the driver about the speed he was driving and how he needed to slow down. Even a bystander could be heard in the video complaining about the speed the driver was going. The officer doesn’t give the driver a ticket, instead he gives a warning. The driver drives away and later the same police officer reports to a car wreck, which in the video is later to be seen as fatal. Both passengers died because the driver didn’t listen to the cops warning. The officer is in complete shock because he had just pulled them over. This video is proof to take the warnings. If you have a bad feeling about something, then you should avoid it. Even if it’s warnings from other people, take the advice, listen because half of the time they’re right. Life is short but don’t try to make it shorter. This reminded me of boyfriend, he drives a known car that is fast. He used to race, and it made me think of anything happening to him. If any of your loved ones love to drive fast, please tell them something. Show them this video before so before they think about racing or driving incredibly fast, they might think before they do.

Listening to the cop say “get home safe” is sad and chilling. 💔 #Luis… | alexis rodriguez and luis cevallos bodies | TikTok

Learning To Read:

This excerpt made me feel inspired, it opens my mind to the dedication Malcolm X put into secure knowledge even if he wasn’t in the best environment. Malcolm X had a lot of struggles learning how to educate himself, learning new words and meanings. But he persevered through it all and pushed himself to learn and open his mind. Malcolm described it as being “truly free” even while still being in prison, reading and writing because a source of freedom for his mind. The fact that he read at 10 o clock at night, even if the lights were off, he still found a way to continue to read until he was satisfied with his reading for the day. He opened his mind to the covering of Black presence in history, showing how whitewashed it truly was. He stated that he didn’t need a status symbol and that his homemade education was very impactful on his life and how he viewed the world with the knowledge he had learned in prison.
