3) The title Drinking Coffee Elsewhere I believe it has multiple symbolic reasons into ZZ Packer’s story through the protagonist Dina. Drinking Coffee Elsewhere is symbolic to reveal Dina’s anti-socialness since it can be seen that while drinking coffee Dina would move elsewhere to avoid being with others and feel displaced to force her to move. Also, the title can symbolize her as a black female and does not trust the new environment she had to assimilate to. In addition, another symbolic interpretation of the title would be that Dina tries to hide from her reality and tries to imagine she is someone else and is somewhere else instead of where she stand in society.
2) I believe that Dina really liked that she had a relationship with Heidi, regardless of hat relationship they did have. She cherished just having Heidi by her side. That is probably the reason she was a little upset when Heidi was making so many other friends after she came out. Dina knew that the exclusivity of their friendship would change as soon as Heidi started making new friends and that scared her. Dina and Heidi were one in the same at the beginning and now that Heidi was changing a little, Dina wouldn’t have anyone left.
1) Dina chooses to be a revolver because she knew it was something people were not going to expect. As a black women she knows that saying she wanted to be a revolver will have people looking at her as even more of an outsider. Dina seems to enjoy risky things, such as her preference to play Russian Roulette. She was careless and did not really seemed to care about much. Choosing to be a revolver made it clear to other people that Dina did not want to be there interacting with them and that they should leave her alone.
