As part of our exploration of the theme of displacement this semester, we will be thinking about all of the ways that this concept shows up in stories we read or see in the news, in the television shows and movies that we watch, in the literature we read, and even in the way that we think about our own life experiences and those of our friends and families. The experience of being literally or metaphorically uprooted and having to adjust to a new set of circumstances is universal.
As you begin to notice this phenomenon outside of class, think about examples you’d like to share on the class blog. You will each be creating two blog posts in which you share something you have encountered or considered outside of the classroom that relates in some way to our topic. This could mean linking to another source or simply sharing a piece of your own writing.
Posts must be uploaded by their due date in order to receive credit for the assignment. Your blog posts will go up on Mondays, and you will have an opportunity to talk about your post and field questions from the class on Wednesdays.
All posts must include a minimum of 300 words of your own writing. This means that if you are sharing a text related to our topic (an article, video poem, song, etc.), you must also include an explanation of why you’ve chosen to share this particular item and how you see it connecting to displacement.
