Political Cartoons
The cartoon I decided to choose this political cartoon. The reason why is because Dr. Oz wants children to go back to school but he does not realize the consequences it will have. If children were to go back to school this would have negative affect on everyone. We don’t know if all the children don’t have the coronavirus or do and to be sending them to school will just spreading the virus more than it already is. Not only will the children get the coronavirus but they will be taking that virus at home who will be passing on to others when they go to the supermarket or other stores to get their essential need. This will only create more people with the coronavirus and there will be more deaths to come because of it. This virus can kill anyone it doesn’t matter what age we are so to think that we can not get affected because we are younger is wrong. We are less likely to die but we can still die. There are so many people dying because of the virus and to not take social distancing serious will only make the situation worse. Many people families are being destroyed each because of the virus. Somebodies mother, father, child has passed away so we are trying to prevent that from continuing happening. If people think that the virus is not real then that is on them but there are other people who take this virus really serious. So don’t get the others who are taking it serious and are taking precautions get affected. We must all follow all these social distancing procedures in order to end this pandemic. This symbol of death is a warning to people letting them know what is going to happen if they don’t continue following the procedures.

Assignment for Week of April 27th
For this week’s assignment, please share a photograph that you have taken during this period of isolation and social distancing. You can use something already in your photo roll, or you can take a picture for this assignment. It could be a photograph taken inside your home or elsewhere. Perhaps you are in the photo; perhaps there is no one in the photograph. The content of the photo is entirely up to you, but the photograph should reflect some aspect of your own experience during these last six weeks. Please compose a one-line caption for the photograph, then write a description of the photo and its significance. What is it? Why did you choose it? How would you describe the mood of the photograph? What can’t we see in this photograph? What does this image convey about your experience?
This assignment must be posted to the blog by Sunday, May 3rd.

Assignment for week 20

The message of this cartoon is to show that nurses are superheroes trying to save people’s life. Of course, the situation we are currently facing with the virus shouldn’t be humorous. But the picture may be funny because it expresses superman in disguise as a nurse helping citizens. An issue I see is that nurses and doctors aren’t getting enough credit as they are risking their lives to help everyone in a crucial time like this. I feel that we should give credit when credit is due, and nurses are playing an important factor in society. They should always be considered as heroes even if this virus never existed, as they try to cure us when we are ill. Nurses go through a lot of hard work and studying just to help people manage their health. I like the picture I showed because nurses are getting the recognition they deserve, and the image disregards the image of masculinity. We always see men “saving the day” and don’t show respect for women. Every gender deserves to be credited for their hard work, but for this image, I like how women are being portrayed as heroes. We are all going through a difficult time in our lives. Some of us are just staying home, watching T.V. all day. However, we have nurses helping tons of clients every day, possibly exposing themselves to the virus. Through tough times, nurses and doctors are here to protect our health and keep everyone safe. Cartoons are a great way to make a point because it catches the eye of every age. What I am by my previous statement is that when people older people see a cartoon, it can remind them of their childhood. The younger audience may prefer a message through a cartoon because of an easier way to understand.

Political Cartoon Assignment (Week of April 20th)
Coronavirus has caused a global pandemic since its appearance back late 2019. Since its start by spreading from one region to another with its first known cases in mainland China, this virus quickly expanded with its neighboring countries before being internationally transmitted to different overseas countries. This virus’s first major strike was in Europe, Italy in particular. Within a couple of weeks, Italian officials have confirmed more than a couple of tens of thousands of people being infected, and more than a thousand have died from it. From Europe to America has been the most dangerous leap ever since it infected people in major cities in the United States of America. Ever since its strike in America, it has been difficult for the United States government to keep this virus under control, from New York City to other major cities in the USA, governors have warned the general public to stay home and save lives but this has been an ongoing issue since not everyone has been following the rules. I have chosen this image because this says a lot about our current situation not only in New York but states around the United States. The message in this image reflects what we should be doing as residents, by staying home we are minimizing the risk of being infected and possibly getting extremely sick. What I find a little funny and sort of ironic in this picture is that the words “I heart NY” are usually displayed on shirts, hats and other types of clothing that are usually outside and for the tourists to see and buy, but since they are inside the building it says that we should stay home and minimize getting infected by the virus as we are in the epicenter of the virus, sorta like an eye of the storm. I think that the creator has made a creative image that makes the general public to see and understand what’s really important during this type of global pandemic. I give huge credit for the creator for sharing this image with us and for everyone to see and realize what we should be doing as humans during this unfortunate pandemic. I think that these types of drawings and political cartoons are the way to go to influence others to see what’s important, these drawings portray what’s important and display it in a humorous fashion.

Blog Post on Displacement
Africans in Guangzhou are on edge, after many are left homeless amid rising xenophobia as China fights a second wave of coronavirus
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/10/china/africans-guangzhou-china-coronavirus-hnk-intl/index.html
This article talks about how Africans living in China are being evicted in different parts of the country due to Coronavirus fears. The city of Guangzhou has the largest African population in China and convinced that Black people are responsible for the spread and should be to blame. Many Africans were evicted left homeless and sleeping in the streets because hotels refused to service them. Also, being tested for COVID19, forcibly quarantined at their homes, banned from entering businesses, harassed by law enforcement, and without a home amid the pandemic. As known, the coronavirus was originated in Chinese origins. African officials confronted the Chinese government for this mistreatment that Blacks are receiving. Many try to justify their actions are prevention from a second wave of the virus, while others demand that this is discrimination and cruel. I chose this article because people are being displaced from what they called home amid the pandemic, which I found to be just evil. There are many things wrong with this especially the discrimination against Africans because they are being portrayed as a cause of the pandemic. This is creating displacement for them as they are becoming homeless as well as seen differently in a community that they have been living for a while. One of the rules to prevent and be safe during this time is by staying home, but Africans are being kicked out of their homes and forced to live on the streets. These precautions are leaving people without proper living conditions and not other shelter options. In addition, we have seen Asians experience discrimination and displacement in the U.S. but it is not being portrayed so far as what Blacks are experiencing in China.

Political Cartoon Week April 20th
The political cartoon shows an accurate representation of how Trump leading the nation. Often in the conference he often disgraced important questions and mocking the issues. And him standing on the man labeled scientists if him thinking he knows more and not taking experts seriously. Thus leading us with so many cases. The way Trump is shaped with his small hands and feet, but his overly large body and hair are mocking his looks. And the statement “Any Further Questions?” is an irony because he does not answer any of the questions seriously. This sends that message of how chaotic America right now and how our political leader taking responsibility for this pandemic. It is very upsetting that he does not even knowledge let along respect people who work their whole life to help humankind. The funny part of this political cartoon is mocking of Trump and how the artist builds his body and overall features. And him stepping and a scientist whose mouth is taped indicating that he is hiding something. The artist mocks Trump orange skin tone and hand smalls which was a joke that overtook the internet. It also funny that America one most powerful nation lead by a joke of a man. And the fact our political leader ignores or even hides information’s but accuse other nations of the same crime. And it is our rights as people to know everything that going on and gave the right information because it is us that are going to impact us. The issues that are really being tackled is how Trump handles thus situations and his behaviors during briefs. He is always rude and obnoxious when it comes to addressing problems in public. It also showed that Trump does not take science experts and advice seriously when COVID 19 is all about health. Political cartoons are useful and very effective. It makes a statement and shows a bigger picture. Political cartoons have been used for years to inform and show people problems in our society. It comes back to that saying a picture can tell a thousand words.

April 20th assignment
The message of this cartoon is to combey how hard life is when you are home. When the quarantine started, people took the time to reflect and connect with other people in the house. However, this started changing when people had to start to work from home. People thought this situation was going to last a few days. Now, we have more than one month in quarantine and do not have a date yet for when we are going back to a “normal life”. Also, everyone right now is trying to adapt in different ways because each one has something different to do at home. For me, what is funny in this cartoon is the mother in the washing area doing her work. It’s funny how everyone is doing something or needs something from the mother but I am sure the mother does not have someone to go to. I feel like during this time of Covid-19, people think this would be a time to unite families in their home. However, in some homes this creates chaos. For example, in my house there is not a specific space to do homework or a quiet space. I feel the same that is happening to everyone else. Now, that everyone is home there is less space to concentrate. Imagine houses with more than two children, and the mother has to work from home. I like this genre because it’s easy to interpret and also find the funny meaning behind it. I feel cartoons are an effective way to make a political point because they reveal funny messages, sometimes in favor of the government and sometimes not. I feel people pay more attention to political cartoons showing what is really happening in the world, instead of reading what happens. I feel cartoons are more efficient than text because they can take you more rapidly to the context.
