Destiny Ingles Food review #3

For my final and last food media review I will be talking about my all time favorite movie Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. This movie is dedicated to food. I crave a burger every time I watch it.

This movie starts off with a town that has noting to eat but sardines. I think something interesting to really notice in this is that a lot of times we take food for granted. A lot of countries don’t have the luxury that we have here in the United states. Here there are programs and places that you can go to to get food. In other places it’s not really the same.

Flint Lockwood the main character creates a machine that turns water into food. While watching the very scene that he does this I always wonder whether it is actually possible to turn water into food. I think that the person who created this movie probably had some type of  theory on it. I wonder this because us humans are made 75% made of water and so maybe food is too.

After his invention goes wrong and is launched all the way up into the cloud it starts raining food. This scene where it’s raining cheeseburgers is my favorite because it just looks so good. Something that I always wondered in this movie is how they could eat food from the floor. In reality I would never eat food from New York City streets. I think that this movie is fun to watch just because it’s very hard to picture food falling from the sky. However In the movie It has some Bible references. The food falling from the sky can connect to how manna fell from heaven. So actually I don’t think it’s impossible that food can fall from the sky.

To continue after everyone is enjoying the food from the sky The food ends up getting bigger and the portion sizes get bigger. For Example A hot dog is bigger than a street block. A steak is bigger than a size of a table. This kind of reminds me of how America is the considered to be the fattest country. Our portion sizes are huge. Some fast food places don’t even have size small in drinks. The medium and large drinks don’t have much of a difference either. We eat a lot in the country and we tend to over eat as well. I personally can eat a chick fil a meal at 5:00 and at 7:00 I would be hungry again. Our country has been so used to eating very late and eating in abundance. I think that if we fixed the portion sizes in America. Obesity rates would go down and our eating habits would also change.

Overall Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a great and fun movie and if you’re ever eating a burger that is the movie to watch.

Destiny Ingles Food Media Review#2

A Netflix show that I have been watching is called “Somebody Feed Phil” Phil Rosenthal is an American tv writer and producer. He is the writer and producer of the famous sitcom show “Everybody Loves Raymond”. In his Netflix show series Phil travels around the world to different states and countries. Each episode is an episode based on the new country and place he visited.

The first episode in the series he travels to Rio De Janeiro. He arrived just in time for carnival. Carnival is an annual Brazilian festival held the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. In this episode Phil connects with some of the locals at the carnival festival and they dance for many hours. Throughout this episode he continues to connect with locals and travels within the country to try diffeerent food locations.

In a food market in Brazil he samples different fruits. He ends up really enjoying the fruit and he mentions that the fruit tastes a lot different than it does in America. The fruit he tried was dragonfruit and in this episode it looked a lot brighter than it does in America but when he tasted it he said it actually tasted a lot more simpler than it does here. I thought that this was interesting because food tastes diffeerent and looks different all over. He also tries caipirinhas which is Brazil’s national cocktail made with lime, sugar, and cachaça. While drinking this he talks with some locals and they said that with this drink they would drink it to heal sicknesses. I think that this was really interesting because through food there is history. To Americans we think that it is probably just an alcoholic drink but to Brazilians it’s a drink that has helped cure many illnesses such as the Spanish flu.

Throughout the show he tastes different foods and not only does he connect with the owners of these businesses he connects with random people on the street and he gets to know them on a personal level. A place he visited was a cooking school and when they gathered a table they talked about Rio as a whole. They talked about the poor areas of Rio and how a lot of the young people are focused on bad things like gang violence, stealing, robbing, and there is no safe haven for them. Through this cooking school one of the members hopes to change people’s lives and help them do more with their lives then staying in these poor areas of Rio filled with corruption. This television show is very interesting but also very important because he connects with people through the food.

The first media post that I will be reviewing is Kids reacting to trying Brazilian food for the first time. In this video they are given different Brazilian dishes and they comment on whether they like it or not. I enjoyed watching this because kids as we know are very honest. They don’t hold anything back. As a kid I used to  love a lot of things that I hate now and so I think it’s important that as a Kid you try different things as much as possible.

The kids that tried the food were surprised that they liked certain dishes that were very out of their comfort zone. Watching them try the food made me want to try more stuff because maybe I would end up liking something I think sounds weird or looks weird. Brazil is actually a very beautiful country and every time I watch Rio I wish to be there.

I personally have been to a Portugese church and I have tried Brazilian foods. One food that the kids tried was pao de queso which is bread that’s baked with cheese inside it. I personally do not like it because of the aftertaste it leaves. The cheese tastes like swiss cheese personally for me so it is a bit like bitter in a way . Some of the kids commented that the bread was chewy which it is because of the cheese inside it. The bread is also made with cassava dough so inside it’s very doughy and chewy.

Another food item that they tried was coxinha which is a piece of fried dough with chicken meat inside. At first glance it looks like a weird ball but after trying it I really enjoyed this one. It’s almost like an empanada but softer and more fun to eat because it’s shaped into a ball. When I tried this I absolutely loved it. The kids trying it in this video also ended up liking it as well even though it didn’t look so appetizing.  If you ever get the chance to try Brazilian foods I would certainly recommend trying coxinha.

A dessert that they tried was Brazilian moqueca is a Brazilian stew made with white fish, onions, garlic, tomato, cilantro, and sometimes coconut milk. I haven’t tried this before and the kids in the react video absolutely loved it. I think that in this video the kids at first didn’t know what to expect and some of the food items they got were very weird looking but they ended up liking it so I am going to be more open to what I eat and if I haven’t tried something before instead of saying I don’t like I will try it and really see whether I do or not.

I Recommend…….

Something I would recommend eating are Takis. When you walk through a bodega; a corner store the first thing that catches your eye are the small purple bags all bunched up together. I wonder how could something so small be so spicy? Looking at the fire image on it you can already imagine how hot your mouth is going to be. It’s usually about 2 dollars for a medium bag. It’s great because one It’s affordable and two it’s mouthwatering good. I like to eat my Takis by opening it from the seams. I like to do this because I can see everything in the bag and reach for the spiciest ones. When I look into the bag my mouth starts to water seeing all the red chili spice on it.

I eat Takis when i’m in a lazy mood because the heat always makes me feel alive. I always put on a movie so I can eat and watch at the same time. However, the thing that I love most about eating Takis is that I pay more attention to eating the Takis and not the movie. I savor all the flavor by licking each individual one. It’s so spicy that it stains your fingers. This is probably not a good sign because if it stains your hands imagine what it does to your stomach but with Takis it’s so good that you can’t just stop eating them.

Takis were originally created in Mexico by a man named Morgan Sanchez and honestly all I can say is he has made a girl in Midtown Manhattan very happy. It’s one of the best things I can eat as a snack, but if i’m being honest I was once a Taki hater. I was obsessed with Hot Cheetos. I would eat a bag everyday. I would always argue that Hot Cheetos were better and that Takis sucks and look at me now. One day when I finished all of my Hot Cheetos I ate some of my sister’s Takis and boy did I feel the heat. Ever since then I have been in love with Takis. I think what I love about Takis is that they taste so good flavor wise, but they also are really spicy after you’ve had a lot and I really love spicy things and everyone who knows me knows that. When my mom comes home from her errands she always brings me a bag and whenever I say I want a snack everyone automatically says Takis. I guess it’s just become a part of who I am. It’s one of my favorite things. It makes me so happy. It’s the little things in my life like a bag of Takis that I cherish so much because it brings good feelings and good memories. Even if this addiction ends up going away  when I’m older it’ll be something i’ll always remember. So I say try Takis and tell me that I’m right but make sure you have a cup of water on hand.

“Recommend Eating Chips” post – Destiny Ingles

  1. The word that I had to look up was receptacles. Receptacles is an object used to contain something sort of like a garbage can.
  2. A line that made me grin was “the useless products we keep almost impulse-buying” because I do this almost all the time. I go into a store for only one thing and I come out of the store with ten other things that I don’t need but I just wanted out of impulse. So I definitely related to this.
  3. If I were to write an essay like this I would dedicate the essay to my favorite snack takis. When I eat takis I just know that It’s going to make me feel better whether i’m sad or stressed. When I eat them my worries are gone. I think because I am so focused on the heat from them and the joy that I get trying to get every single bit of spice from the takis I’m not focusing on other things. I especially love eating it while watching a movie. It’s a snack that makes me smile. If someone were to buy me them I would be so happy just by that.

Killing dinner questions – Destiny Ingles

  1. The word I had to look up was pachysandra which is basically a plant shrub.
  2. The passage I chose was “I spoke to it philosophically about death.” This quote surprised me because death is something that happens it is the process of life however it isn’t just about philosophy but it’s an emotional process as well. This quote shows the ignorance that the girl had because as people who get their meat packaged already we are saved from seeing the pain that animals go through and as this being her first time killing a chicken she isn’t thinking about how the chicken feels but more so as a it’s a process of life.
  3. A question I would raise up for the class is why was the dad so resentful towards his daughter?

Thanksgiving dinner- Destiny Ingles

Thanksgiving dinner; the traditional turkey as the star of the show with dishes to complement. As we started to prep all the food for the late evening dinner walking into the busy kitchen you can smell the different herbs from the rosemary, parsley, and cilantro. The smell of the citrusy bright yellow lemons and the tangy smell of vinegar splashing and bathing the chicken. As the turkey sits in the oven. The oven as the air escaped. The smell was flowing through the air like how the wind flows through the trees. The smell goes up the nose and straight into our stomachs. We dressed the table with the gold tablecloth we use every year and the plates all perfectly laid out with the splayed utensils. Sitting at the table is like waiting one minute before it hits 12 o’clock on christmas eve. When the food was finally laid out it was like staring at a thanksgiving painting with the golden roasted potatoes, the turkey perfectly roasted centered as the focal point. The baked mac and cheese is still bubbling, oozing with cheese as the baked brown cheese sits on top. The cold sparkling apple cider popped and sizzled. As we all sit on the table and share hands to pray. The food mocks our hunger. As your eyes dance all over the table you wonder what to get first. On my plate I had the baked mac and cheese with the turkey breast and the juicey sauce all over it with the golden roasted potatoes on the side. In Hispanic culture there is usually always rice and so we had the traditional Arroz con gandules. As it’s still steaming on my plate I dig in and all these foods taste great on their own but when mixed together it’s just like having a party in your mouth.
