Food media review #3

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-blind-cooks/id932498963?i=1000520356275

For this food media review I heard a podcast from the food chain it was called blined cooks. It is about people who are blind but cook. They are interviewing three people. There’s Simon Mahoney who is an author who wrote first catch your rabbit. Then there’s Payal Kapoor who is a youtuber, her channel focuses on helping people who are blind or partially sighted gain confidence to learn how to cook. Last but not least is Christine Hà, who won master chef, wrote a book called recipe from my home kitchen, and opened the blind goat restaurant.
Christine Hà talks about how she learned to cook. She stated that around the time she was learning how to cook she had also gradually started to lose her vision in her early twenties, she said that she would reteach herself to cook. Since a young age she had to grow up really fast, she wanted to be independent which is why she wanted to cook for herself. Christine has a completely organized kitchen and has apps assisting her. A challenge for her is baking. Christine takes her time in the kitchen to avoid having any accidents. Christine suggests to acknowledge that accidents will happen but to not let fear paralyze you.
Payal Kapoor also lost her vision in her early twenties due to meningitis. It took her 6 years to be able to try to cook again. When asked how she felt to cook again she said that she felt a sense of pride to be able to cook. Payal also has an organized kitchen and uses a sense of smell to find ingredients. Payal started her YouTube channel because many people wanted to learn from her and she made it her goal to teach her viewers how to cook safely and comfortably. Due to her loss of vision she was able to appreciate the small tasks of cooking like. being able to appreciate the certain smells and textures that she had not noticed before.
Simon Mahoney lost vision in early seventies Simon wanted to be able to be independent which is what inspired him to cook. Simon said he did not consider himself disable. To make sure he doesn’t mess up while he cooks he only concentrates on one thing at a time. Due to his blindness he had to become more organized so he would know where everything was, he also has audio labels. The reason he wrote his book is because he wanted to help people to

They all shared some similar experiences. I like how they talked about the barriers in working in the kitchen and eating out. I really enjoyed this podcast. It really made me understand that there’s nothing that can stop us from doing something. It may be difficult but not impossible. I like how they are using their own knowledge and are helping others.

Food media review # 2

Video :https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Y7NWC5jgM

Everyone likes to travel and we see many things while traveling, personally, my favorite thing to do when I get to a new place is go eat different foods or go to places I’ve heard are popular in that area. In the eight minute video 28 foods to eat in your life time 2021 ultimate list we see different places where they serve different foods that they recommend that we try out.

Looking at this video made my mouth water, the food looks absolutely delicious. With the information the video gave me I made a list of the places I wanna go eat once I am able to travel again. The first place they mention is Birrieria San Marcos tacos in LA those tacos sound super appetizing and I like how they explained that the meat is slowly cooked up to seven hours. Also in LA I would like to go to Monty’s Good Burger to try their plant based burger. Next it talks about Portillos in Chicago and its cake shake, to me that sounded unique and super delicious so it’s definitely on my list. Next item on my list are the ribs at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B Que. I don’t really eat ribs but the one mentioned in the video sounded like they are worth making a stop at. The food served in Skyline Chilli, in Cincinnati also sounds like a place I would like to swing by and try the five ways. If I ever go to London I wish to try the full English breakfast at Terry’s café. If I were to go to Las Vegas it wouldn’t be to gamble but more likely to try the dessert cake tower at the Sugar Factory. Lastly in my list would be Ralph’s Italian Restaurant which according to the video it’s the oldest Italian restaurant in the country.

Some local places the video recommended and I wanna visit are Clinton St Baking co. The blueberry pancakes sound magnificent and I’m planning to go try them some time in the near future since it’s not that far. For a cool treat in the summer I would also like to stop at La Newyorkina to try their traditional Mexican style ice pops. I would also go try the classic sundae at Eddie’s sweet shop in Queens. Lastly I would also go try the Cronut at Dominique Ansel Bakery.

This video was short but gave lots of information about different places to eat and different foods to try. I suggest anyone who wants to learn more about these places or is looking for new places to go eat at should watch this video. I got to learn of new places I can go eat in that are in the city and do not require me to travel that far. I wonder if anyone else would make a list like mine, of places to go eat at, by using this video.

Plan for Creative Re-Mix

I am planning to interview people on the topic I’m researching on. I feel like many people have different opinions on my topic so I wanted to interview 2 to 3 people to see what they think, and how their opinions are different. I would have to come up with a list of questions I could ask in the interview. An obstacle I might face is putting all the interviews together in one paper and making it coherent. Some advice that might Assist me is should I write down the interview response or record them.

Food Media Review

Candy From Around The World | Around The World – YouTube

Candy around the world is a small six minute video that talks about different candies. Even though this video is not long it is packed with information that has me wanting to search up more. Sweets are all around us and they all taste good, but we seem to forget that everyone eats different sweets and candy that we normally might not see and eat.
The video starts by stating that humans have craved sweets since around 6000bc. I searched up if this was a fact and it turned out to be true, there is a cave painting of a humans collecting honey to eat. I was surprised to see how long the history of sweets was. The first candy the video introduces us to is gummy bears which according to the video was invented in Germany in 1922. To be honest, gummy bears were my childhood and I did not know that they were invented in Germany. Then it talks about haw flakes that are made with hawthorn fruit which is eaten in China. I’ve never heard of this candy. According to the description it’s sweet and tangy. I would like to try this candy, it seems to be something I would enjoy the flavor of. After China it talks about a candy in Mexico called salsaghetti in the video they say that it is watermelon flavor gummies and it comes with a tamarind sauce packet. The video describes the flavor as sweet and spicy. Then it talks about Turkey, and the candy Turkish delight which is made of cornstarch and sugar, it is covered in powdered sugar and comes in various flavors. Later in the video it talks about Ukrainian toffee. It describes it as caramel with fruit fillings which makes it a delightful sweet, which isn’t too sweet. The video does not point it out but there is a reason why they describe the taste of the different candy. We all expect candy to be sweet, but this video points out not all candy is sweet and not all candy is bitter or tangy. Every country had their own preferences of what they want their candy to taste like, and I found that very interesting.
In the video it talks about the candies eaten in the Netherlands, Iran, Indonesia, Croatia, United States, Spain, United kingdom, Jamaica, Canada, Japan, Argentina, New Zealand, Nigeria, Italy, Belgium, Columbia, and Finland. I think it does a good job collecting information about the candy and giving a small summary about each candy. I do wish it could have been longer and would have talked about more than one candy for each country. I really enjoyed this video, I learned a lot and it inspired me to do my own research of what candies different countries eat.

I recommend eating candy

I recommend eating Blue raspberry Frooties, they are one of my favorite candies. But be careful not to confuse them with the Tootsie roll vanilla Flavored Midgees. They look very similar but if you can look closely you can notice the differences between them like the Blue raspberry Frooties candy is small. In big letters the name Frooties is written across the blue wrapper, along with the name we have the flavor that is written in small black capital letters. Furthermore if you read the wrapper you can find more information written in small letters that look like they don’t fit, to read you have to squint your eyes. That is how you could tell the difference.
The Blue raspberry Frooties are chewy candy, which were introduced by the Tootsie roll brand in 1970. I remember my first encounter with the sweet. It was a Halloween night, after I had arrived home. I randomly picked a small candy and put it into my mouth, it was the blue raspberry Frooties. Ever since that day they have become my favorite candy. Even though I do not eat this candy often I have fond memories accompanying the times I would eat them. When my sister and I were younger, we would get into a small fight over who would eat the last piece, my mom would not like that so she would come over and eat it herself so we could stop fighting. Even though we were mad at that moment we look back and laugh over how childish my sister and I were. Another memory I have is when my friends and I had to stay after school to help with a show so they accompanied me to the store where we found the Blue raspberry Frooties. Up until then they had never heard of the candy so I gave them some, they really enjoyed it. By the end of the night we were half way done with the candy I had bought, as well as all three of us were very energetic due to all the sugar we had eaten.
The Frooties have a fruity taste. They tasted like artificial blue raspberry flavoring but somehow different from every other artificial flavor, it did not taste overwhelmingly fake. The flavor itself was not overpowering, it was a delicate taste that most can enjoy. It is sweet, not too sweet that it hurts your teeth but sweet enough it would satisfy your taste pallet, for me It is just right. These candies are hard to find. I usually had to wait till Halloween to get some but I eventually found them at party city, every day after school I would go get them. I would always buy a bucket full of candy and when my supply was low I would go back to restock. This candy is my favorite. It has a lot of memories from the past, my childhood Halloween, and those little fights with my sister. I really enjoy this candy and would recommend that you try it and give me your opinion on it.

“I Recommend Eating Chips” Week 4

One word I had to look up from Anderson’s essay is prosaic which means having diction in its ordinary form, meaning that it’s mundane and uninspired.
This line made me smile, “Oh, hello, nice to see you, have a seat — let’s stress-eat some chips together.” I liked this first sentence; because it made me feel welcomed, it felt like it was a judgment free zone.
I would write an essay like this to my favorite candy. My favorite candy is blue raspberry Frooties not to be confused with the Tootsie roll vanilla Flavored Midgees, they’re completely different. They were my absolute favorite candy growing up which I would only get to eat on Halloween because it was hard to find. I found them in party city but I haven’t been able to get any, so since I’ve been missing them I would write a whole essay explaining why I love this candy so much, and why it has the honor to be one of my favorite candies.

Geselle Alaniz Assignment Week 2

  • One word I looked up was vehement which means an intense feeling.
  • One passage of the essay that struck me as interesting was “There are two things you should never do with your father: learn how to drive, and learn how to kill a chicken”. The reason I found this interesting was because I can see what the author is trying to say since I recall being nervous when I was learning how to drive with my father. I liked how Hamilton organized the essay it was easy to follow and it helped me envision what was going on. My question is did  the author purposefully compare an experience most people go through and her own to better understand what she felt?
  • My discussion question is, would the author wish that experience would have not happened?

Geselle Alaniz- Food memory

I remember every Christmas eve with my family and friends, how we would all gather together at the table in our living room while we heard the cold winds whistling outside our windows. I remember the table and the seats arounds them and how each person occupied different spots. I remember all the people in my living room talking loudly and laughing, all enjoying themselves. I remember the food, all different types of food that my mother had cooked, and the dishes the other guests brought over. I remember the strong wonderful aroma of all different kinds of food that could make anyone’s mouth water. Spicy, salty, bitter, and sweet were all different flavors that you would be able to taste that night. All dishes had a different meaning to us whether it was a traditional meaning, or it was just a new dish someone was proud of and wanted to share with everyone. Some dishes would be over the top and extravagant while others would be simple and modest. When it was time to eat we would all gather around the table and say thanks for the meal we were about to have. As we ate stories of our parents’ childhoods would fill the entire living room, making the mood of the room warm and cozy. At the end when we were all done with our dessert,  when the children were starting to doze off and everyone was leaving, that feeling was still there, and even long after they were all gone, the cozy warm feeling of the environment was still there, and even reminiscing about it now, I still feel it , and it feels like I am their, like they are all here, reliving that moment of us all sitting at the table eating a meal with those who I hold dear, and that brings me joy.
