  1. The Article states, “Given that art is sometimes used in experiments to induce mood”. I agree with this statement that art affects person’s mood because I like to draw and I noticed I draw much better when I’m upset than in good mood. I feel very good after drawing, it changes my mood.

  2. One specific part of the article that stood out to me, personally, was when Keith Oatley states that “literature can be conceptualized as a cognitive and emotional stimulation in which the travails of characters are literally run on our minds, as a computer simulation runs on a computer”. When I read this statement, I reaffirm that we are still superior to artificial intelligence because of our creativity. The fact that our personality can be manipulated by reading a fictional story is very impressive. The overall experiment was well-executed and summarized. To further consolidate their work, they even make sure both fiction and non-fiction readings manageable for the participant by keeping the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level the same.

  3. The last paragraph of this article is more significant for me because authors are being really honest by saying “It’s not our arguments…” I notice that all of their arguments are supported with lab experiences and statistics. I wonder if they could make this paragraph longer by telling their deep experiences and feelings, so that readers can also get the idea about the process of this research. I also felt really confident and trust-able from their given graphs and statistics because all the details are clearly explained by step by step.

  4. I do agree with the fact that art strongly and permanently changes someone’s personality. Sometimes while we become a new person depending o the type of books we read. For example I like to read bibliographical books of rich people because it helps me shape myself to become a person different from who I am today. , more mature and to learn from their experience to become somebody.

  5. The part where it states, “Ross (1999) found that among her sample of 194 committed readers, 60% found reading to be a personally transforming experience. It appears that many individuals found the books they read had literally changed them” stood out to me the most because it is interesting to know that we as humans can be changed just by the books we read. I only heard of parents and your surroundings that can shape your personality. However, I agree with them because they provided step by step procedures of the experiment and statistics to back it up. After reading this part, I realized that for one to improve their personality they should read positive energy books.

  6. After reading the article and clearly observing the provided data, I agreed with authors that art somehow affects our mind. Books and stories especially enlarge our horizons of knowledge and thinking process. readers have chance to live the life and emotions of the main character of the story. Learn something new, at least enlarge personal vocabulary.
However, from my perspective, it would be much interesting to read if the authors explained the feelings in details. To be more precise, I would be interested to know what exactly changed in their thinking process or behavior after reading.
Overall, the article was clearly written and informative.

  7. According to the article, it states, “These theories have, however, been revised, in response to research showing that the mean levels of personality traits change well into middle adulthood.” I agree that art does have an impact on a person’s personality and “personality maturation.” It based on how its view and being process. However, the data for the experiment has limitations based on age and location. Many college students are high targets because they considerably know how to express their feeling, and others are just random, which cause the database to be biased.

  8. The part that I resonated the most was when the article stated that “… the quality of art-induced emotions…” because I agree with the fact that there is more to art than the appearance to change one’s trait. Taking fiction stories as an example, the story itself is not just words but a vivid image that is created in the mind. Each person’s mind is different so the scene that is created in their head may be similar to another person’s but still contain some sort of differences. Lessons that are learned from the stories may or may not affect the reader’s life but in some ways, it can still shape their personalities a bit.

  9. The line that resonated with me most in the article is “Art and emotion even further and asserted that art represents forms symbolizing dynamic transformation of human emotions.” This line resonated with me because I have experienced change in my emotion being reflected in what I was doing whether it was art or my actions. This line can be seen in many other people as well. We see many musicians change their style of music due to circumstances and how those circumstances change their emotions.

  10. The line that says, “It appears that many individuals found the books they read had literally changed them” resonated with me the most because it is the same as learning history. Authors write books for a purpose and when they write their stories, they often include their personal knowledge or experiences in order to let their readers know what they think about certain ideas or concepts. When I read this line, I agreed with this statement because I think there are certain aspects of me changed as I grow older and some of these transformations came from the readings I had read in the past.
