Elijah Muhammad is one of the prominent religious leader who organizes the Nation of Islam. He has influenced many civil rights activists such as Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. His group mainly attracted those who are under white oppression. He specifically taught them that white people are “devil” and black people are the original human being. With the congregation being a part of his childhood, James Baldwin doesn’t seem to accept the Nation of Islam’s explanation for inequity. I think his critique is warranted and justified because he firsthand experienced racial separation.
Elijah Muhammad was a religious leader who led the nation of Islam. He claimed black people should have separate economy and freedom. His teachings that white people are devils and black people are original gained the attention of people oppressed by whites. James Baldwin has never joined the Islamic state. None of these basic teachings supports the view of James Baldwin. He met Elijah Muhammad and was asked about his religious beliefs. “I left the church twenty years ago and I have not joined anything since,” said James. It was his way to refuse to join the organization. I think his critique is warranted as he states that people should accept whites with love.
Elijah Muhammad was a religious leader of the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam is an African American religious and political movement to improve the life of African Americans in the United States. The Nation of Islam believed that black people once ruled the world and then devil created white people. Elijah Muhammad wanted black people to be separated from white people. The Nation of Islam attracted many followers, mostly African Americans from prison because they need advice and direction. James Baldwin does not agree with the ideas of Elijah Muhammad because he thinks is not a good way to solve the problem. I think Baldwin’s critique of the Nation of Islam is justified because people should not use violence to solve problems.
Elijah Muhammad was a religious leader who led the Nation of Islam, an African American movement. He was Fard Muhammad’s successor who founded the Nation of Islam. The goal of the Nation of Islam was improve African Americans lives in the U.S. through racial segregation. Their belief is that white people are devils and that black people were created first. Elijah and the Nation of Islam attracted African American prisoners, drunkards, and junkies because he wants to give them hope and to spread his belief. Baldwin’s critique of the Nation of Islam is warranted because he thinks that it is racist for them to demand a “separate black economy in America”. They wanted racial segregation just like the white people and wanted to “destroy” the white people.
Elijah Muhammad was a religious leader of an African American political and religious movement known as the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam had the goals to improve the conditions of African Americans. Such goals would include better living conditions, to have freedom and justice, more equality. Their belief was that there was only one God and white people were devils while the blacks were the original. James Baldwin does not agree with Elijah Muhammad’s ideas because he felt that the ideas doesn’t really help nor appeal to him since he had experienced racism multiple times in his life.
During the past, Elijah Muhammad was a religious leader who led the Nation of Islam, an African American movement. He was Fard Muhammad’s successor who founded the Nation of Islam. He claimed that white people are devils and that black people were created first. Through his life, he was mostly standing on violence side to achieve his goals. Specifically, he wanted racial segregation just like the white people and wanted to “destroy” the white people. At that moment, Baldwin clarified that violence is not the right way to achieve goals.
