Stephen Deng – introduction post

My name is Stephen Deng and this is a little about me. this semester will be my first semester of my second year at Baruch College. I have lived in New York for the past 10 years after moving to Seattle Washington earlier on in my life. One of my many hobbies is to build model kits, I do this because it is a good way for me to relieve stress another hobby of mine is to cook weather it ends up being good or a not. when I cook do not follow a recipe because I believe cooking is an art and all art should be unique. An interesting fact about me is that I love to talk about lesser known facts about history. continuing with that fact my favorite subject is history because there is a charm about the past that lures me in. a bad habit of mine is that I have the tendency to meander when talking for example if you were to strike up a conversation with me I tend to shift topics quite frequently but somehow all of the topics link up with each other. One of my favorite pieces of literature is Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. My favorite sport is boxing because to me it is one of the most technically challenging sports and it is one of the hardest sports to master. I enjoy singing weather I’m good or not is up to the listener. I enjoy songs that have powerful vocals because vocals are like the soul to the human body.

I chose to attend Baruch College because I want to major in I.O psychology which stands for Industrial organization psychology. In single terms I’m a business psychologist, instead of helping people I help businesses experiencing problems, the pay is not bad either. my time in Baruch so far has been very enjoyable as the people here are generally very nice are are willing to help the staff and professors are also very willing to help. One of my favorite movies of all time is Saving Private Ryan which is a movie about the second world war. What makes it one of my favorite movies is the outstanding camera work in the first 20 minutes of the movie. to close off this brief introduction of myself a quote from Chinese philosopher Confucius “out greatest glory if not in never failing, but rising up every time we fail”

Introduction – Ishita Gupta

Hello,

My name is Ishita Gupta and I’m majoring in Entrepreneurship. This is my second year at Baruch. I’m an upper sophomore.

I was born in India and moved to New York at a young age. I am a first-generation immigrant. I was brought up in Queens, and have lived there for 14 years. My entire family just recently moved to Canada, and I stayed back to complete my college education. I have been a vegetarian for 19 years, and I have been transitioning to veganism for about 2 months now. I am also transitioning to the Zero-Waste Lifestyle, I have been on this journey for about 7 months now. It has been a difficult transition, but it has made me a lot more aware of my actions and my carbon footprint.

I am trying to graduate in 3 and a half years and make the most of the college experience. I am currently the Vice President of Philanthropy of the Women in Business Organization here at Baruch. I am very passionate about giving back and am heavily involved in community service and volunteering. I enjoy traveling and living a sustainable life.

Introduction

Hi,

My name is Jose Alvarado. I am originally from Queens but I have lived most of my life in Miami, Florida. I went 1-12th grade in Miami until going to school in Philadelphia for my first year of college at La Salle University.

My reason for attending this university in Philadelphia was that I was recruited to row Division 1 collegiate rowing at this university. So from late 2017 to mid 2018 I lived in Philadelphia, getting up at 5:30 every morning to plant a boat in the Schuylkill river to row for 3 hours straight. What a life to lead. Eventually, I came to realize how much I hated rowing crew so I quit the team.

After my freshman year in Philadelphia I transferred to Baruch as a sophomore. I met some really lovely people upon moving here. It’s really great to live here because there’s never nothing to do! There are museums, parks, exhibits, etc. I currently dorm at Baruch on the Upper East Side where I have made lifelong friendships.

Sophia Iospa – introduction

Hello All,

My name is Sophia Iospa. This is my first semester at Baruch College. My major is Actuarial Science.

I moved to New York in 2014 and currently live with my husband in Brooklyn. I am fluent in English, Hebrew, and Russian.

When I moved to the States, I had no idea I would be staying here, or going to college. I was 24 and had just begun to question what I wanted to do next. I come from Israel, so the typical path of a young adult is very different to that of someone in the U.S. Whereas in the US after high school graduation a young adult typically either goes to work or to continue their education in college, in Israel our next stop is the IDF (Israeli Defense Force).

After the Army, I moved to the US for work. I worked in an office in NYC for more than three years when I decided that it is time to go back home. I had everything ready, I notified my family that I’m coming back, and then, 2 months before my scheduled departure, I went on a date with the best man I have ever met. At the time I didn’t know he will become my husband, but my intuition told me to give him a chance.

So, in Fall 2017 I registered to my first semester at BMCC. I kept my job and for the next 2 years, I was a full-time student and worked full time. It was very challenging, but also very rewarding. By the end of my associate degree, I married my prince charming and graduated from BMCC with a GPA of 3.9.

Today, I have a similar plan in mind, I am 5 months pregnant with my first child and I am a full-time student. My goal is to graduate as soon as possible while maintaining my grades and the quality of my work. I hope to graduate with honors while raising our daughter.

I will finish with a quote I really like by Theodore Roosevelt – “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; … ; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly” Excerpt from the speech “Citizenship in a Republic”.

I am looking forward to the semester that lies ahead, but most importantly I am excited to “dare greatly”.

Introduction

My name is Claire Larson and I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I grew up with 3 siblings in a rural part of the city and had goats, cows, and dogs. I moved to New York in 2005  and have lived in Brooklyn for 14 years now. I worked as a waitress and bartender since moving to New York, and have now decided to go back to school to finish my degree being mostly inspired by the current political climate. I am very interested in public policy, and am working on my public affairs degree here at Baruch. I have about a year and a half left before I graduate, if all goes as planned. I am hoping to get an internship that interests me so that I can better focus on what type of job I would like to get when I graduate. I am interested in public arts projects, prison reform, and sustainable housing.

I met my husband in 2008 while we were both working at a restaurant called Tortilla Flats, and have been married for 3 years now. I had a baby girl in March this year, so I am now back to school after taking last semester off. In my spare time I enjoy reading, knitting, music, and cooking. I am really looking forward to being back in school and working towards finishing my degree.
