Final Project

Hello!
For my final project I plan on doing the blog option! In most of the stories we have a read there have been themes, lessons, and commentaries that no matter the place or time period can be related to modern day life. That being said, I would my blog to draw comparisons from literature to current events, recent works of literature, or daily life.

I have always wanted to make my way into the world of blogging, and by choosing this option I am somewhat forcing myself to have a my shot. In this blog I would like to set up a sort of investigation trying to figure out if human kind has been learning from the past, or is history repeating itself. Furthermore, I would especially like to use news stories that can relate problems of the past with things we are all aware of today.

I would also be curious to combine a bit of history in my blog, setting each story in a place, time, and religious circumstance. By doing this I hope to gain new perspectives on what influences writing.

I intend to get blog up in the coming weekend, starting off with an introduction and maybe using two stories we have read to get the ball rolling. From then on, I hope to analyze one story a week and find visually enticing images in order to keep people coming back!

I think that you have a very interesting idea for your blog. An idea that automatically comes to mind is to see how certain themes, or struggles, reappear throughout time and finally culminate to what they are today. For example, instead of writing about two texts that focus females separately (like “Life of a Sensuous Woman” and Sor Juana’s “Philosophical Satire”), maybe you can find a way to weave them into one post and trace the change in attitudes toward woman to the present day. In other words, I think it would be best if each of your posts focused on a unique topic and touched on several texts that we read.

I also agree that it will be beneficial to research the events that that inspired the stories that we have read. It will certainly make your arguments more insightful.

    Best of luck.

Keep, pushing toward a more specific theme. Relating texts to modern day life leaves a topic or theme wide open, which could tend to make your posts seem very discreet and disconnected, each one quite different from the last. What will the connections be? How will you track a narrative in the blog? Also, soon our readings will be from the modern day. How might you use some of the upcoming texts, which for the sake of keeping your blog most current with class concerns I think you should try to do. I do like he idea of asking if we’re learning from the past or repeating history, but you will want to have a specific issue you’re interested in exploring to see if you can identify development or if we’re doomed to make the same mistakes.

You have no idea how happy I am that you came up with an idea like this! What makes the texts we’re reading so interesting is the fact that for the most part, their messages are still highly relevant to our lives today. There’s a lot you have to work with here, but I’m sure that as long as you keep honing the connections between the texts you choose and their modern-day similarities back to the ideals of the Enlightenment, you’ve have an amazing blog on your hands.

You say that you’re planning on finding these similarities throughout history, so are you going to focus more on certain themes that appear constantly over the course of time, or is it more of picking and choosing certain instances in history that can relate back to the texts? Either way, you’re going to have to do quite a lot of research, so it might be best to define your limits of “history” so you don’t overwhelm yourself.

Can’t wait to see the results!!
