Blog Proposal

I have to say that the blog project is the most attractive, and most likely option to work on my part. As for what I will discuss on my blog, I am thinking of having a focus on the female characters or authors and their roles. I can use them as case studies to make inferences of society during the time the work was written and how they might help put our own society into perspective. For this topic I will start the blog with posts on Moliere, Akinari, Sor Juana, Saikaku, and Rossetti.

A second topic I might also include in a separate section of the blog might be about revolution of all types. Of course I would use ideas from Medicine to start it off to talk about violent revolution. I can then talk about Moliere, Kafka, and Dickinson to discuss revolutions in thought. This second theme is still a little hazy and vague when I try to imagine it, but I have time to flesh it out, and the main emphasis of my blog will be on the first topic of women.

Considering my work and class schedule, however, I will only have time on weekends to post any real posts. As a result it is likely that many posts will be posted on the same day, or in very close intervals.

    Hi Derek,
I love the idea of focusing on women-I too chose that angle for my project. I’m confused as to your reference of female authors or characters, are you using both or just focusing on one group? Maybe you can focus your blog on works by female authors/playwrights and show their influence to their works being that they’re female?
    Just an idea.
Looking forward to seeing your project once it gets its foot off the ground!
Looks like your on top of the time table being that your so busy!
    good luck

Narrow! You need a tighter focus or the blog won’t end up making any compelling claims or unfolding a good, coherent story. The role of literature in social change (gender or political revolution) is a good starting point, but really just that: it doesn’t suggest much of a focus. You might start by asking questions: what should the role be? Just document? Make beautiful (focus on the aesthetic)? And if so, why? Does beauty make the cause some how more compelling, universal, what? Or is the role of lit more active? To actually inspire change? How does it manage to do this? You can use some texts we’ve already covered, but more are coming that you must use! So potentially perfect. Keep the blog current with the concerns of the course.

I like your ideas and think you have an abundance of resources to choose from, your blog will have an overflow of great material. I do agree with professor in terms of narrowing it down, because if not, it can become like a cloud and hard to get your point across on what the purpose of your blog is. I suggest perhaps coming up with a thesis and there on, all your posts will be reflective of this particular facet on the topic of women. Maybe on their described sexuality or roles, or something more unconventional like their words or actions. I look forward to checking out your blog!
