“I am making art” can be interpreted in many ways. One interpretation of this video is that the artist intends to show that art can be produced in any way or form. The artist is saying that labeling something as art is what makes it art. Although open-ended, it makes sense in the way that the man in the video makes random movements with his hands and body while calling it the process of making art: “I am making art.” Another way to interpret this video art is that the artist intends to poke ridicule or satire to people who make art without any direction or professional elements resulting in strange art. This video may be a way for the artist to say, by showing otherwise, that art can’t be anything we please to be and that art has some academic definition to follow.
“Acceptance,” on the other hand, I think is a very odd video showing a naked women who suddenly gets drenched in water which seemingly came out of nowhere. I believe that the artist’s intention is to literally abide by the title by showing an example. The act of the lady in the video can be called an act of acceptance because she seemed resilient although surprised by her struggle. She showed courage to face whatever comes her way and just go with the flow hence “Acceptance.”
Comparing the two video arts, I think a similarity is their emotional effects on viewers or at least on me. Even though it may or may not be the artists’ intentions, both videos made me feel uneasy and awkward because of I am making art’s silly element and “Acceptance’s” strange aspect which was heightened more by its nudity aspect. Furthermore, the first video made me laugh while the second one scared me.
I also think that it’s good to point out that “Acceptance” can be an example of art which according to “I am making art” can be anything that holds value to its maker.
