Hi my name is Joel Verghese, Im 18 years old and im an undergrad freshman here in Baruch. I have not decided for a major as of yet but I have been thinking of doing one of the science majors, Although Physics might be a good major to take just kidding. But really my desire lies in the science courses just in case you want to talk me out of it. I went to school overseas to india, thats where i got my highschool diploma and funny thing about that was all my classes were actually AP classes so basicly i went to hell five times a day and my teachers have that sort of effect on students that causes them to do their max, know what it means ‘Lots and Lots of homework’. But in any case i learned a lot from them. All my friends were basicly indian but thats fine with me. India turned out to be a real experience for me. It taught me that life is a shithole and everywhere you go it smells so it is one of the fundamentals of life. After it was all said and done, my parents brought me back and this was exactly a time o needed to choose a college but my dad is like NO, you’re going to Baruch. Im like why, dad says” Cuz its.cheap”, But i wasn’t sad about it, I finally realized that Baruch was the better college out of all CUNY colleges so i was mildly excited. So before my college started i decided to make a commitment that i would do better and work hard than i ever did in highschool in order to mould my ambition to be a reality. For this i have to thank my parents for supporting me all the way since i was child, they use to say “success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration” which got stuck on me. And also owe my gratitude to God for all the wisdom and guidance i received in India. Oh yeah, My favorite ambition is watching sports and not playing them for obvious reasons( IM A REALLY FAT GUY)
Hey Joel!
You’re post really made me smile! (Just to put that out there!) Thank you for sharing your life experiences and being very honest about yourself! I love hearing everyone’s goals and ambitions here in Baruch, mostly because I also have similar goals like you all! And I wish you, me and everyone the best of luck in fulfilling those goals!
As for what you wanna major in, chillax! You have >1 year to officially declare your major, and your whole like to decide on the career just for you!
BTW: My mom said the same thing for Baruch… -_- (cheap and close to home) XP
Your trip to India definitely provided you with great insight to life, your surroundings and how to interact with people! I really hope that you become active in the school and display leadership in the school (of course getting good grades too) [5 AP classes are hell, and I applaud you for surviving it! ^^]
very straightforward, honest and cute! Thanks again for sharing! I look forward to your next post and see you monday!!! ^^
