Who I Think I Am?
To my classmates I think they see me as an athletic, nice, quiet guy, who keeps to himself. I would like to be seen as a person who doesn’t seem cocky in how he acts in school or how he talks to people in class. From 7th grade my life has been surrounded by the sport of volleyball. Volleyball to me is more of a need then a want in my eyes. My life has been impacted greatly by the people I have met through the volleyball. For example, one person who has noticeably changed my volleyball career is my high school varsity volleyball coach. My coach has helped me become one of the top volleyball players in Suffolk County. If it wasn’t for my coach I don’t think I would have continued or committed so extensively to volleyball. My senior year of high school volleyball was one of the greatest seasons I’ve been a part of. Volleyball is such a big part of my life that I joined the best Long Island Volleyball club that existed. With my travel team I have traveled to California, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Virginia, Texas, and Illinois. If it wasn’t for my volleyball skills i don’t believe I would be going to this College.

I love music. Ever since I was a kid my family would gather around to sing and play and just have a blast. In my early years, I took piano lessons and realized that I had an incredible musical ear and that’s when I took off. At church, I learned how to play the drums and took over once the drummer moved to California. I began to write songs at the age of 12 and almost landed a deal with a local production company to sing a couple songs on a cd for a famous Indie Bachata artist but that fell through. Ever since then, music continued as a hobby to me. I like to meet up with friends, hangout and show them songs which they’ve never heard before, they like to say I should be a dj! I love jazz/big band/swing, hence the first few songs on the playlist. One day i stumbled upon a song on pandora by Louis Armstrong called “West End Blues” and that started my love for the genre. I listen that kind of music often because it makes me feel good. The instruments, the lyrics, everything is just perfect and it seems to display class, which is something that i like to carry myself with. The last two songs on the playlist are hiphop. I LOVE hiphop. I am a person who like to drive really fast and whenever i’m driving, hiphop always hypes me up and makes me drive faster…that’s soooo bad, I know, but hey, I’m a business man, and business men take risks, and you better believe that one of the risks I take is driving fast. I like to rap too! I’m pretty good at freestyling. Whenever there is a hot beat, If i’m feeling it, i’ll kill it. Rap is fun man, it comes from the soul like A Tribe Called Quest, one of the first, original rap groups ever known. They come from Queens, NY., and believe it or not, most Rap artist admit to the fact that they mainly started rapping because of them. Kanye West, Common, Pharell, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, a lot of these big, well known rappers were featured on their documentary “Beats, Rhymes and Life” saying this. But of course, nothing compares to the blues man, Miles Davis, Coltrane, these are the people who originate music, people from the early 20’s, a time of peace a happiness in America, and a time where music actually meant something. I love music, that’s why I chose to do a ten song playlist for this entry. In my opinion, if it weren’t for music, we would not know what creativity is. And I thank those who take the time out to create a pattern of sounds that can actually suit our ears to confort, even if I don’t like the kind of music you listen to, and boy i’m picky. PEACE!

As you can see I love to party. this dance music cheers me up because whenever I’m down , it can get me pumped up! These songs are in order in the ways i love it because they all have there own beat. there are times where i like relaxing music like coldplay but most of the time when I’m on the train and driving my car i like to blast this selected playlist . I have this playlist titled party so i can go on it whenever i would like too. Even though people see myself as a shy kid you can always see the party side of me because i always love to be happy . Happy is the way of life and i love to live that life. Key of life is to succeed and this is a way that helps me succeed

Hey guys! So from what I’ve read it looks like I’m not the only one who’s new to the blogging thing. Which is good, no pressure. I decided to do a playlist of songs. Some of them describe me, which is difficult because I feel like that’s a constantly changing playlist, and some songs are just part of what makes me who I am. I come from a very musical family and there are some songs that tie very strongly to memories.
- Milord by Edith Piaf. This song is my grandmas favorite, and when my mom was growing up it was a tradition to listen to Edith Piaf on Saturday mornings while everyone cleaned the house and did chores. My mom brought this tradition to my family. Even though I’m not at home, I still listen to this while I clean my dorm room, though I like to do it on Friday mornings.
- Let It Be by the Beatles. My dad plays the guitar, and when I was little this was the first songs I knew all the words to because he would play it and we sang together.
- So Long Dearie from the musical Hello Dolly. I started doing musicals at school when I was in fourth grade and stuck with it for every year until I graduated. Hello Dolly is my all time favorite musical and Dolly Levi is my dream role, so if it every comes back to Broadway I will be the first in line to audition.
- Feeling Good, the Nina Simone version. I love this song because it has a subtle way of saying “look around you and enjoy what the world is offering you”, which a lot of times I have a tendency to forget to do.
- She Don’t Want A Man by Asher Roth. This is one of my favorite songs. I love to dance to it and I listen to it whenever I’m getting ready to go out. I love Asher Roth and I think this is a perfect description of what it’s like to be a girl that just going out to have some fun.
- The Remedy by Jason Mraz. I had to put at least on of his songs in here because I love his music. I chose the remedy because this was the first song I ever heard of his, and it was right around the time that I was starting to explore my own taste in music.
- Caught In A Daze by David Dallas. I have a serious tendency to let myself get caught in a daze, and sometimes it can be a great thing, like when I’m writing or I’m focused on something I’m working on. Unfortunately most of the time I get caught in a daze of laziness and it’s kind of an issue.
- Look What They Done To My Song, the Ray Charles version. There is literally a Ray Charles song for any mood you could ever be in and it’s almost embarrassing how much of his music I have in my iTunes. For the most part I listen to him when I’m studying or reading but some songs, like this one, are better for when I just want to be giddy and hop around like a fool
Julius Del Rosario
Hey everyone. So I’ve never really blogged before but here it goes…
My name is Julius Del Rosario as you can see from the title -.-. I was born in the Philippines and lived there for 7 years until I moved to New York. My hobbies include playing basketball, watching movies/TV shows (specifically comedies), practicing Taekwondo, and just relaxing. Something about myself is that I’m a really easygoing type of guy – well except when it comes to tests and projects…when I’m the typical stressed asian kid trying to get a 100 lol.
My experience so far here in Baruch has been great. I’ve met a lot of new people and have really enjoyed the college atmosphere. I’ve been spending most of my free time in the school gym playing basketball and I’ve met a lot of great people there. As for my classes, most of them have been going well so far. I can barely understand philosophy though…wth is going on there???
I guess that’s it for now. Looking forward to the rest of the year~
Iris Lee
Hi everyone! I’m Iris and I am an Asian American who grew up in a mostly Jewish suburban neighborhood. I’m a daughter of two loving parents, a sister, a friend, and a girlfriend. I am a little spoiled at times but I’m quite lovable when you get to know me. 🙂 Most people think I’m the stereotypical quiet Asian girl when they first meet me, but after getting to know me I’m nothing like how I appear to be.
I haven’t decided what I want to major in but probably something in finance or marketing. I have big dreams but sometimes they only feel like dreams. I’m concerned that I wont know how to accomplish my goals at Baruch and end up completely lost in life. I also want to be active in the school and join a lot of clubs but I worry that I wont be able to balance schoolwork and other activities.
This past month has been a completely new experience for me. Living on my own in the EHS dorms and having to take a subway to get to school are some things I never thought I’d do. I am suddenly given a lot of responsibility and I think I’m handling it very well. I feel mature and grown up living independently from my parents and because of that I am taking school more seriously too. I don’t slack off as much as I did in high school. And I can manage to do so much more in a day than I did before. Being on my own has made me a much more productive person and it’s such a great feeling!
My first year of college is already starting out wonderfully! One of the main reasons I chose to study at Baruch was because it’s located in the city. The city always fascinates me; it’s beautiful all year round. I can’t wait for the leaves to start falling and for the holiday season to come! 😀
I made this playlist on YouTube of songs that describe me :))
Playlist: (press play all)
1. Iris – Goo Goo Dolls (For the obvious reason that it’s named Iris and also because when I was younger I could relate to this song. I felt very much like an outcast when I was younger in school and felt that no one understood me)
2. By Chance (You and I) – JRA (This is me and my boyfriend’s song <3 He’s a big part of my life and so I thought he deserves to be on this list.)
3. Courageous – Casting Crowns (I’m a Christian and God is a big part of my life. This song gives me strength to do the things I’m too afraid to try. It reminds me that I don’t have to be afraid of the world.)
4. I’m not a girl, not yet a woman – Britney Spears (I’m at a stage in my life where I’m learning to become an adult but at times I feel the pressure of the future pressing down on me and I’m not sure if I’m ready for it.)
5. Clumsy – Fergie (I’m just a clumsy girl >,<; I tend to trip over my own feet and embarrase myself a lot)
6. This Love – Big Bang (For a period of my life I was really into K pop and this was my favorite song from then. Yes its a remake of the song this love by maroon five)
7. Thanks For the Memories – Fall Out Boys (This was one of my favorite songs from my middle school days and it reminds me of my friends back home who made my life a thrill.)
8. Make it mine – Jason Mraz (This is a very inspiring song that always motivates me to do my work. And I love Jason Mraz’s music 😛 )
9. River Flows in You – Yiruma (This was my lullaby every night when I was younger)
10. Drop The World – Lil Wayne ft Eminem (These are my two favorite hip hop artists. My personality is contradicting at times. I love music from all different ends of the spectrum. From classical to hip hop to rock.)
Joel Verghese
Hi my name is Joel Verghese, Im 18 years old and im an undergrad freshman here in Baruch. I have not decided for a major as of yet but I have been thinking of doing one of the science majors, Although Physics might be a good major to take just kidding. But really my desire lies in the science courses just in case you want to talk me out of it. I went to school overseas to india, thats where i got my highschool diploma and funny thing about that was all my classes were actually AP classes so basicly i went to hell five times a day and my teachers have that sort of effect on students that causes them to do their max, know what it means ‘Lots and Lots of homework’. But in any case i learned a lot from them. All my friends were basicly indian but thats fine with me. India turned out to be a real experience for me. It taught me that life is a shithole and everywhere you go it smells so it is one of the fundamentals of life. After it was all said and done, my parents brought me back and this was exactly a time o needed to choose a college but my dad is like NO, you’re going to Baruch. Im like why, dad says” Cuz its.cheap”, But i wasn’t sad about it, I finally realized that Baruch was the better college out of all CUNY colleges so i was mildly excited. So before my college started i decided to make a commitment that i would do better and work hard than i ever did in highschool in order to mould my ambition to be a reality. For this i have to thank my parents for supporting me all the way since i was child, they use to say “success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration” which got stuck on me. And also owe my gratitude to God for all the wisdom and guidance i received in India. Oh yeah, My favorite ambition is watching sports and not playing them for obvious reasons( IM A REALLY FAT GUY)
Jacob Kim
Sup guys, I haven’t actually blogged in a long time even though I have a tumblr, but this IS homework..
This is probably the only homework that I’m actually happy to do. A lot of my classes at Baruch haven’t been as I expected. I expected to have lecture halls and whatnot but I ended up with classes that range from sixteen to a hundred twenty students. Baruch was not my first choice, but I hope to learn a lot and to find out exactly what I want to major in. I hope to meet and befriend many colleagues as well as get on the right track to a more successful life.
I love sports, probably because I’m so damn competitive. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I guess it can get annoying sometimes. I’m not the nicest guy out there and I don’t like putting up with shit that I should not even have had to put up with in the beginning. I’m pretty straight-forward. If anyone has an instagram and really want to know what I’m truly interested in then check me out! my username is jacobbkim.
That’s pretty much it, and I look forward to the next class meeting.
Abhi Gupta!
Hello, It’s Abhinav Gupta here, well you can call me Abhi. or Abhinator.
& I was also planning on making a video but due to NFL SUNDAY… my schedule wasn’t compatible.
My Hobbies : Well, I’m an avid tennis player. During the summer, I would wake up around 7 am and play until 12 pm. I was a fiend. I would play for hours upon hours.
– Also, I love to play Basketball with harold. Me and him have been playing a lot with Julius and Shah. Also, I love playing/watching football, love watching golf. I actually just love every sport, because they’re challenging in their own ways. I don’t believe any sport is “easy”. Every sport is tough in its own way. Also, I love reading the newspaper. I love understanding how current news shapes and changes the world around us. I also love reading about other peoples opinions and try to understand why they’re thinking this way.
My favorite hobby is driving. I love to drive, I am a bit reckless – but I think I’m a very good driver. Speed limit is 65 mph everywhere!!! My Personality – I would really classify myself as lenient. I am never worried, scared, fearful. I’m always smiling and enjoying every day. I actually don’t remember the last time I was upset…. well then…
Oh, I am a very serious person at times. Once I focus, its razor-sharp.
Flaws – Losing. Hate Losing. hate it. very much so. Special ability? – Uhm. I have the ability to think critically, which most mammals cannot do. Most Important Skill : being Competitive. Life’s a competition ( natural selection ??? ). Gotta beat out the competition, or AIDS will. Major : Analytical Finance. yup. why not? I’m also a member of the Marketing dept. on the Real Estate Club
Which is holding its meeting every thursday. Please come!
