Favorite Enrichment Workshop – Cole Dybec

Published by under Uncategorized

Of all the enrichment workshops, the one that influenced me the most was Definitely the Rubin Museum. I am definitely a lover of art and museums. Whenever I get the chance I try to do things related to art as much as I can, whether it be paintings, music, or food, which are all things I consider art. Being a student has so many benefits in the art world. There are student discounts on plays and music performances, and museums like the Rubin Museum and the Museum of Modern Art let Baruch students in for free. Specifically the art in the Rubin Museum fascinates me because it goes so deep into the culture of the area it is from. Places like China, Tibet, and India are so rich in culture, and have been around for so much time, allowing their culture and art to deeply grow. I’m glad that there is a museum so close (and free) that’s offers access to that. New York is the place to be for art and culture, and the Rubin Museum is a true contributor to that.

Enrichment Workshop

Published by under Uncategorized

I’m not exactly positive on what an “enrichment” workshop truly is, and if we as a Freshmen class have ever actually attended any.

After checking my sources, it seems we have, and now I shall discuss my favorite one of the three (four?), as well as why I felt so enlightened after having participated in it. Out of the many workshops we attended, I can easily say that the final Baruch voices was the most meaningful to me. While dawdling around the Ruben Museum of Art and staring at Tibetan art was very informative, and ruining a short middle-aged Bengali security guard’s (my future occupation) day was a riot, the recent Baruch voices presentation stayed with me for weeks. Weeks. College has gone by incredibly fast, and I barely realized it. Baruch voices threw me for a loop, as it made understand that an entire semester of class was coming to an end; friendships only recently made have either ended or soon will. In a school with so many thousand students, I can only imagine how highly unlikely it is to run into my fellow classmates again. While I hardly paid any attention or gave any thought to the actual monologues and presentations themselves, the hasty “goodbye” speech delivered at the start is what brought that one crocodile tear to my eye. From my heart to yurrrrs, peoples in all my classes.

As a saying from somewhere I don’t remember says “A picture is worth a  thousand words”, this meme expresses everything I need to say and doubles the requirements for this blog. This semester goes really fast and i couldn’t catch up with everything. The only times i can spend on school stuff are after class. Sometimes there is just not enough time to study or finish assignments when you have a job that takes up most of your weekend. College is pretty stressful but i hope i can manage it somehow.

Enrichment Workshop

Published by under Uncategorized

This semester we went to 3 enrichment workshops. All three of them were great experiences and fun. My favorite enrichment workshop was the trip to museum. Although commuting was pretty long and tiring, everything else about it was really cool. I really like the atmosphere in the museum, very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. My favorite section was the dark shine. The question that still rings in my head was “Why is this shine so dark if it was designed to warship gods?” I mean, just from the look of this shine will make someone feel uncomfortable. The first thing that came to me when I saw this shine was that this shine was a place used to perform rituals and sacrifices. It is still very hard to believe that this shine was once in someone’s apartment. Although it looks creepy it is still very fascinating and cool.

23rd Street Building

Published by under Uncategorized

This picture just makes me laugh because Lion King is actually one of my favorite Disney movie. It’s so accurate. I have one class in the 23rd Street building every Monday and Wednesday. First of all when you first walk into that building is not as appealing as the Vertical Campus. First of the color is dark and dull that it makes it look gloomy and stuffy. I don’t really like it. Next is the security at that building. Like I have walked in there without my ID couple of times and they have never noticed. But some days they will go crazy about you ID. It’s like now your gonna start to care. I honestly believe the security just do it when they feel like yelling. If you forget your ID in that building you can’t just type your social like in the other building. You have to go to like a police looking room on the side where you type your social and they like stare you down to make sure it’s you. So much precaution when obviously we are students. Now the worst part of this building are the bathrooms. By far, these bathrooms are not as modern which makes them look dirtier. It’s just a weird feeling in those bathroom. So I think this picture is perfect because nobody should have any classes in such a building. One must stay AWAY!

My Favorite Enrichment Workshop

Published by under Uncategorized

In freshman seminar these year we had to attend three mandatory workshops. My favorite workshop was the last Baruch voice we visited. At first I thought that it was going to be boring, but it turned out that I actually enjoyed it. I like that all the monologues were written by students just like us. They didn’t go up there and read but I thought the four actors that went up there to present did a great job. I don’t know his name but there was an Asian actor that was great. He was defiantly my favorite. He put his own spin on all the monologues and he made us laugh. There was a monologue about bacon that was hysterical. The way he acts, he makes you believe that he is talking about a girl and right at the end he says “I Love You Bacon”. The whole crowd burst out laughing cause nobody expected for him to do that. I liked how some of the monologues were really personal about someone’s life. For that one second you felt what that persons as going through. I thought it was really great. It was really thought out. And without those certain actors it definitely wouldn’t have been the same.

Enrichment workshop

Published by under Uncategorized

My favorite enrichment workshop has to be going to the museum. It was an experience I most definitely would not have done on my own. Seeing the art work and Himalayan culture really showed me how interesting it was. I felt that the other workshops put me to sleep but this one kept me active and walking around so is  impossible to sleep attending that one. This museum also showed me how interesting the buddhist culture is. Also learning that with my Baruch ID i’m allowed to go back I plan on visiting it again with my family.

Michael Gebhardt :D

Coming from a previous school were I get my exams back no more than a week after taking them, this school was a huge change. Here at Baruch my major concern with my teachers was how long it takes them to give my grades back. Some people may see this as a good thing if doing poorly, but it is hard to stay on top of our work when you don’t know how you are doing. I feel that I still don’t even know how i’m doing in some of my classes because of this. This meme can relate to me because of it stretching out my concern with a student not getting his grades back for over 50 years :o.
