Blog Post 4 (Final)

The enrichment workshop I’ve attended was quite interesting to some extent. First off my first experience of looking through the window at the 10th floor of during the workshop was astounding. The view outside was amazing! The workshop helped thoroughly explain the required courses I must take during my next semester to move on. Also the sheet of paper the male adviser provided is really helpful because most of the required and additional courses are listed under labeled sections to choose from. I wouldn’t say that I’m inspired in any way from the workshop experience, but the event really helped out a lot. Also it was my first time using the elevator and eventually explore the tenth floor of the building. I fully appreciate the adviser’s effort in providing as much detail as possible in understanding a bit more about Baruch life.

My Baruch Experience

narnia

http://www.snowbombing.com/blog/2010/02/05/976/

My impression of Baruch College during the first three months is vague because I still don’t know where the vertical campus is…:/   The entire facility along with the correlated buildings owned by Baruch is diverse  and yet to be explored by me. I find the swimming pool to be amazing because there are no restrictions for me to not swim in it. Baruch is like Narnia to me, a new land yet to be explored filled with diverse paths you can take(different majors) and new people to meet. I’m like a lost child wandering around the campus and library, trying to gather and associate myself to #CollegeLife.  I’m also trying to adapt to the long class lectures, and trying to not sleep during class 😮    It’s pretty astonishing to see so much college students going in and out of Baruch’s campus. A new journey begins.

Focus 2 Work Assessment Work Interest

Explain how the Assessment Test effect me:

After completing the work self-assessment test, I have learned that my priority is in convention with 0 artistic ability whatsoever. My main focus and interest has always been in math especially dealing with numbers. After completing the survey/assessment, the jobs that matches my interest are mostly accounting and finance related as what I would have expect. However, only a few of the jobs have a bright outlook and many people are competing in the business major. It’s extremely hard to find a decent pay job without having to compete with more people than before. The results reflect upon no changes from what I would expect or plan for myself previously because my expectations was always in accounting. Several marketing jobs were suggested to me which surprised me because I have little knowledge or skills in advertising products or to help a company grow in terms of creating new ideas and evaluations. Participants in Focus 2 help clarify a future direction for myself because many people have the same job interest as me in which motivates me to try harder to get the job. Also, there’s a huge variety of majors/interests in the assessment test that I’ve never seen before which surprised me. I felt more self-directed after taking the test because now I know my goals are the same and I’m not straying from one major to another.

New York Times “Front Page” Reflection

https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/chateau/

The link above is to the New York Times project about “Blood Drive”.

My group selected Blood Drive as the main topic of the project because many college students donate blood yearly. Blood donation is important to helping others and freshman are not likely to donate blood because they don’t know much about how to. Generally the articles listed in my New York Times projects explains the dangerous side effects of donating blood and giving helpful advice to other students on what to do before donating their blood. Also yearly the number of blood donors decreases and hopefully more freshmen college students will step it up and help contribute to any Blood donation events in Baruch to help New York Blood Center. Donating blood is really easy in Baruch College, you simply go to the room listed under Baruch Event Blood Donation and wait in line.

Nicky Gao’s First Post

Sup guys :).A little bit about myself.. I enjoy a variety of sports that includes: swimming, street handball, biking, and gaming.

Song Name: Started From The Bottom by Drake.

The song above partially describes my education side of life…I’ve attended and graduated from John Dewey High School(a school viewed as an underachieving high school with a surprisingly low graduation rate by the mayor and DOE). I’ve started from the bottom(graduating from a not so good HS and being able to attend Baruch College(a college I’ve wanted to go to) and to further study my majors(Business accounting/finance).

Having Fun And Excercising

Handball is one of my favorite sports because the game itself is rather complicated. The main goal of handball is to aim precisely for the ball and return the ball coordinately to the wall. The sport may look easy but is surprisingly hard to engage upon. I enjoy playing handball in the summer with my friends. The game can be played solo, two players, or four players with basically small risk factors. It’s extremely easy to play handball because most public parks contain at least one handball court. Having Fun And Excercising

Extremely difficult sport.
Extremely difficult sport.

Swimming is really difficult(I’m not even joking). I started learning how to swim at the age of 12(my parents forced me to) and began to fall in love with swimming after learning how to swim. My favorite stroke is freestyle because the most energy required in swimming is an technique called freestyle in which both our hands are in constant motion along with our legs, the body must align itself to the water surface for maximum proficiency. The reason I like swimming is because of the coolness of the water circulating around my body and once my goggles gathers moisture, my vision becomes blurry in which excites me because I have no clue when I’m about to stop or not. The feeling of swimming and barely seeing anything ahead of me is extremely nice. I used to swim everyday in this fitness gym called “Bally” and the sport itself helped tone down my body. After watching Michael Phelps win the Olympics in 2012, I’ve began to swim more often and idolize Michael Phelps into my swimming routine.leagueLeague Of Legends

League of Legends is a MOBA(Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). The game itself is quite popular among teenagers specifically. The community is extremely bad and toxic meaning people in game will be experiencing negative attitudes and demoralizing other players even if they are in the same team. I like playing this game a lot because everything is free, meaning I don’t have to spend a single penny to be equal to other players unless for decorative purposes. The game is highly strategical and requires attention to certain parts of the game and champions itself. A lot of my friends also play this game and I was introduced to this game back in high school and couldn’t stop playing it ever since. A normal game ill last at least 20 minutes up to 1 hour depending on strategical team fights, consisting of five players on each team. I had a lot of fun playing this game and to also watch other professional players play as well.

Road Biking

Biking is also one of my favorite sports because it’s thrilling and dangerous at the same time. During busy traffics I enjoy biking along the middle of the road in between cars because some drivers tend to open their car doors without analyzing their environments in which causes bikers to accidentally collide with the car doors. Biking allows me to travel to somewhere far away without having to worry about paying for public transportation. Biking also helped me tone my legs during the summer(including a nice tan). I enjoy feeling the wind and having to empty my mind while cycling to enjoy the scenery before me 😀

Asian Life

Asian Life

My life is pretty simple,  growing up in a Asian family, I’m taught to respect my elders and care for my fellow brothers and sisters. Every weekend I would go outside and dine with my family at different Chinese Restaurants to gather and talk of what’s happening during our weekdays. My favorite sports are limited to the weather except for swimming which is indoor sport. I enjoy travelling to different places with my bike. The joy of biking to someone far away from home thrills me because my senses sharpen at everything that’s new around me.
