Kamil Pruszko New York Times Project

My group selected the articles about yoga because college can be a stressful thing and yoga is something that is known to help relax the mind. We’ve seen people in the school going to yoga classes and when we asked one of them about it, they told us it is really good for clearing the mind. Also, it is difficult to find time to work out and stay healthy and yoga is an alternative that can help students maintain general levels of fitness. The articles about helping people in California, Africa, and the elderly show that yoga is something that is very beneficial. Part of our class this semester was to help others and this connects to how yoga is helping many people throughout various parts of the world. Yoga was our topic for many reasons and we had a good time learning things about it that we didn’t know before.

Our group did the NY Times project on domestic violence to inform people about the dangers of it. We also wanted to let everyone know that it can happen to anyone and the things you can do to prevent it. Many men and women are affected, and many of them don’t do anything about it. In the future many Baruch students may face this problem. It is important to always get help as soon as possible.

i.“What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of major and career goals?”

I have learned that I want to do something that has to do with sports. It can vary from many different majors, but I want to stay in the area of sports because that is where my biggest interest is. This has affected my choice of major and career goals because I have narrowed it down to one area of interest and my goals are pretty much very similar to what they were before.

ii.“How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?”

The results were pretty much expected for me, but I learned that there are a lot of things that I do not want to do, so I narrowed down my options and that is a major change.

iii.“How did participating in FOCUS 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?

Participating in FOCUS 2 helped me clarify a future direction because it made me realize that there are many majors I do not want to do and therefore it narrowed down my list. My action plan is still not complete because I am not one hundred percent sure of what I want to do in my future, but at least I know what I don’t want to do.

New York Times Reflection

Domestic violence is a sensitive & complex topic that everyone should be knowledgeable on. This factor led our group to choose it as a focus for our project—not to mention there was even on violence at school.

I feel no one should subject themselves to abuse, however in some regions it is tolerated to a lesser extent than others. In the articles encompassing our topic you’ll be able to compare & contrast domestic violence across varying areas. Although your borders shouldn’t determine whether abuse is permissible, because the effects of prolong abuse can be irreversible on the individual, and their community.

All in all relationship violence whether it’s toward women or men (though more severe towards women) can have significant implications on everyone, and victims in those dire positions shouldn’t feel like they’re alone.

My group and I chose to do the front page on soccer because it is an international sport and also with the world cup coming up there is a lot of news on it.  Although I am not a big fan of soccer I learned a lot about the sport by doing this project.  Also we went to a soccer game as a school event so that helped us decide on soccer being our topic.

Focus 2

1. Through my self assessment I have learned that I would be good at jobs with leadership skills and social interaction.  This has caused me to consider an alternative major in I/O psychology.

2. It does not reflect any change in what i expected for my future but it did introduce me to new career paths and majors

3. It helped me narrow down the careers that i might be interested in and also allowed for me to look at facts on that career.

Action Plan

Focus 2

1.Through my Self-Assessment i have learned that i am suited for a job in Management or anything where i have a Leadership position.

2. THese results don’t change what i expected at all. I came into Baruch wanting to do management and that is exactly what i got.

3.It made it clear that i should stick to what i believe best suits me.

Focus 2

“What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of major and career goals?”

A-     I have learned that I prefer a job that requires order and influence over others, rather than creativity. It also shows that I prefer a career dealing with numbers and math.

“How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?”

B- I intend to major in accounting, so the results showed me exactly what  I thought it would. As of now, my plans for the future have not changed.

How did participating in FOCUS 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?”

C-  Participating in FOCUS 2 did help clarify my future. It reassured me of what I want to do in the future.

New York Times Reflection

I chose soccer as my topic for New York Times because it is very popular all over the world. Sports like soccer keep very different countries connected. The World Cup is also very important to the players and their fans. The articles chosen show what the United States has done to prepare for the World Cup and where they stand in the rankings. I am not a very big soccer fan, but  I still hope my country wins.  Our New York Times Project is below.

New York Times Reflection

My group decided to our project on yoga because Jurgen suggested yoga and it sounded like a good idea. Yoga is important because it is an activity that is done across the world in many different places. Also, people of any age can practice yoga. Yoga is a good way for anybody to stay in shape and can also be fun. As people get older, they are not as active so yoga can be a loose workout. There is a yoga session here at Baruch on Thursdays.
