Focus 2

1. What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of a major?

I learned that I honestly have no interest in many work areas through my self-assessment, therefore, since I have pretty much no interest in many areas, the self-assessment didn’t really give me any insight on picking a major.

2. How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?

I never really expected or planned anything so the my results are not reflective.

3. How did participating in Focus 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?

Focus 2 results gave me occupations that are completely different from each other, for example, I got dentistry in one assessment and business management on the other so I don’t think focus 2 is that reliable or even use as a reference.

My Baruch Experience

http://www.snowbombing.com/blog/2010/02/05/976/

My impression of Baruch College during the first three months is vague because I still don’t know where the vertical campus is…:/   The entire facility along with the correlated buildings owned by Baruch is diverse  and yet to be explored by me. I find the swimming pool to be amazing because there are no restrictions for me to not swim in it. Baruch is like Narnia to me, a new land yet to be explored filled with diverse paths you can take(different majors) and new people to meet. I’m like a lost child wandering around the campus and library, trying to gather and associate myself to #CollegeLife.  I’m also trying to adapt to the long class lectures, and trying to not sleep during class 😮    It’s pretty astonishing to see so much college students going in and out of Baruch’s campus. A new journey begins.

Blog Post #3

The first three months of Baruch College have been very unique for me. I have realized that everything you do in college is up to you. The paths you decide to take and the decisions you make are all on you. I didn’t expect that I would have so little time for myself because of school work, soccer and my job. It was a difficult transition, but overall I feel that it has gone well for me. I really like the school and the people in it. They have been very helpful and now with class registration coming up, the picture I have chosen is perfect to explain my first three months. From deciding to go out or stay home to catch up on homework, my decisions have outcomes that I have to deal with. I have done fairly good on the exams and done well on assignments. I hope I have a good end to this semester and an even better semester next term.

Why did Pick my subject?

We did our blog on blood drive. Because, first I didn’t really have a said and second, I don’t care. I find the topic blood drive to be a very interesting topic to write about because it seems to be a very big event in Baruch, and I also hope that our blog will encourage my fellow classmate to attend the blood drive.

Hello there

The photo I chose to be an accurate representation of my first three months is placed below this block of text. I chose this photo since it’s my troll face. The past 3 months here were nothing out of the ordinary and it was exactly what I expected Baruch to be which is somewhat enjoyable. Made some good friends and had some great times with them so far. Hopefully it gets even better from here, let the workload stay the same though, it’s manageable.funnyface

Focus 2

1. What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of a major?

I learned that my strongest work interests are enterprising, investigative, and realistic. The results tell me that I am an individual that likes to solve problems and work with objects and things, opposed to being creative and working with my imagination. This hasn’t affected my choice of major a lot because it has only strengthened the idea of the career I want to pursue.

2. How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?

The results don’t change much from what I planned previously because the results are very similar to what I planned for myself. It reassured me on what I want to do with my life.

3. How did participating in Focus 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?

Participating in Focus 2 helped me realize what I want to do and it helped me realize many different work interests, personality, and skills that I have.

FOCUS 2 Assessment Reflection

Out of all of the tasks and assignments I’ve been assigned in this freshman seminar course, I’d have to say that this one was the most significant of them all. In fact, it solidified my choice in changing my major and transferring out of Baruch. I love business, I believe that it is a fundamental skill that everyone should have some degree of understanding in. At 12 years old, I was already an entrepreneur of my own company and it made me want to pursue business. But I realize more than anything that I love physical therapy, I love aiding people in physical development, rehabilitation, and activity. I enjoy diagnosing and helping those in need.

The FOCUS 2 assessment told me that I am more fit to become someone in the medical field. It brought up potential careers such as an anesthesiologist, physiologist, physical therapist, and much more relating to the medical field. I’ve always had a strong disdain for chemistry, but I wouldn’t mind taking the necessary courses to gain access to the field I truly love. Seeing this, I have made it my ultimate goal to transfer out of this school into a school where I can pursue pre-med and ultimately major in what I love.

Prior to this decision, I remembered how much I loved business and its concepts and even to this day, I still do. But it is only a minor love, I know myself well enough to know that competition in the business field is cutthroat and like all successful people, you have to be the best of the best in your field. I’ve seen my father struggle with real-estate, but I have also seen him in the prime of his financial endeavors. Business is never a secure field but it holds many opportunities and even more opportunities to become financially successful. I used to look to business as a way of making exponential amounts of money. But it was exactly that; I only pursued it because of money, not because of what I actually like to do.

On Sunday, I had an epiphany. I was with one of my friends and his roommate at his dorm, and there we sat for hours talking about our career wand what we wanted to do in the future. It was in those 8 hours that i realized, I don’t really like business, I like doing business, but not as a career. I love helping people, rehabilitating people. I love giving advice and giving diagnosis of problems. Similar to a physician or doctor. In addition, my whole family pursues business. My mother is a senior accountant at BNY Mellon and my father is an entrepreneur/analyst/real-estate person. I choose to not go the same path as my father, I wish to pursue my dreams in pre-medicine in the college that hope to be able to transfer to from this wonderful school for business.

By no means am I saying that business is not a good area to major in, it just doesn’t apply to me, and doesn’t interest me as much as medical related things. I am a lifeguard and also a water safety instructor. My job involves the development of physical activities as well as the saving of lives. I love what I do, and I’d to turn my desires into a reality, into my career. Remember, a job leaves you Just Over Broke, if you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life again.

FOCUS 2 is USELESS

i.“What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of major and career goals?”
I learn that lawyer came up a lot as my career, however, I will never want to be a lawyer. It didn’t really affect my choice of major or career goals.

ii.“How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?”

It didn’t affect me at all.
iii.“How did participating in FOCUS 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?

FOCUS 2 is useless, it wasted 30 min of my time

My group chose to research articles on studying abroad because we thought it is good to know about studying abroad programs and how we can benefit from them. Some of us are debating whether to study abroad and researching these New York Times articles furthered our knowledge on studying abroad programs and the basic facts about studying abroad.

Our group picked blood donation because it is extremely important for students to donate blood in order to save other people’s live. We also want to raise awareness of blood donation as well as letting the students know that Baruch has blood drive event available in the campus. The articles we posted have given information about blood drive that are relevant to everyone.
