Davin Chaltu

The process of sharing our project began after my group and I basically adopted a theme we were all interested in. It wasn’t that hard to come up with a theme because we were all shifting towards the same thing. After combining our ideas, we came up with the theme of technology. In upcoming weeks we did our blog posts individually, helping each other as the week went on.

The experience was pretty confusing but was overall a pretty good experience. We all pretty much knew each other so it wasn’t that difficult to communicate.

After presenting, I learned that preparation is key. In order to deliver a good presentation, you have to know your audience and adjust your topics among their interests.

I enjoyed watching everyone’s presentation. Everyone’s presentation were interesting and had topics that drew me in. Many were funny, which kept me awake.

The overall experience was pretty cool. The topics my peers had chosen were attractive and helped me learn about things I didn’t really pay attention to.

Davin Chaltu – “Authorities Worry 3-D Printers May Undermine Europe’s Gun Laws”

This article shows an very interesting new development in technology and weaponry. This introduction of a gun printed through a 3-D printer is unheard of, especially me until I read this article. Basically, a 3-D printer has been developed and is sold for about $1,360 and can print anything into a 3-D plastic mold. So those people who decide to use new technology for the worst, of course, decide to print plastic molds of a gun. The surprising thing being that the gun can actually fire a bullet. The interesting thing about these plastic molded guns is that they cannot be picked up through a security scanner in an airport. These airport scanner can only detect metal, and being that most guns are usually made of metal, the idea of a plastic one hadn’t really been seen. So, in conclusion, I feel that this new technology, although cool and maybe helpful, there’s always a certain amount of individuals who take it to the extreme.

Davin Chaltu – “Is Anyone There?”

First off, I found this article a little bit hilarious because of the whining tone throughout. The article speaks about individuals who feel alone or lonely because they never receive an reply when they send an email. I understand the loneliness felt but you can’t really expect a response for everything that you give. It’s just not a universal concept quite as yet. But if I were to send someone an email or a IM, I would like to receive some sort of a reply.  But if a person receives hundred of emails daily, it’s nearly impossible to respond to everyone.

Samsung Soars While HTC Reports First Quarterly Loss (Davin Chaltu)

“Samsung, which is benefiting from its status as a leading maker of semiconductors as well as smartphones, said it expected to post operating profit of 9.9 trillion won to 10.3 trillion won, or about $9.2 billion to $9.6 billion, in the third quarter, up from 8.06 trillion won a year earlier. ” So basically, Samsung is railing in a huge profit due to the rising consumer demand of smartphones. But due to the battle of between HTC and Samsung, HTC is taking a big hit , while Samsung is soaring in the air. “HTC has also suffered from internal discord, and a series of executives have quit the company in recent months. “They are suffering a drop in sales,  due to the battle between HTC corporate executives. According to some executives, once you drop in sales, its almost impossible to rise back up. So with new technology on its way, battles arise among competitors, drawing one company out and one company to the top.

Starting off with the first picture, my country of origin. Many people mistake me for being Indian or being from the Middle East. That is completely false. I am from a country called Suriname, located in South American. The unique thing about my country is that it’s a Dutch colony and that being said, I also know how to speak Dutch, surprisingly.

The second picture depicts my love for basketball. Ever since a child, I’ve been playing competitively. Basketball has always been with me and was a key source in staying out of trouble. It also distracted me from my school work, but that wasn’t important at the time. Also, the Miami Heats represents where I grew up, Miami, Florida.

The third picture, and most important to me, is weight lifting. I took up this new activity as a way to kill time after school. But it turned out to be one of my greatest devotions since the age of twelve. Helped to burn off stress, whatever stress I thought I had, and was a way to escape the world and to be in my own personal one.

The fourth picture depicts my love for music. Mostly music from the Caribbean or around that genre. My favorite artist is Vybz Kartel, mainly because his style attracted me. But nevertheless, whatever profanity he sings about, is a way to express himself and I admire the courageousness.

My favorite fruit being the coconut. Growing up in a tropical state and being from South American/Caribbean region, this my favorite fruit. I would grow a tree of them if i could, but unfortunately I can’t.

Lastly, I love the idea of money. Growing up, the mentality of my family was to earn money. I started to save in a little piggy bank at the age of five. I never liked the idea of spending money, because than it would mean that i would have less. And I couldn’t let my stack decrease. So, basically my main goal in life is to make money. The reason for my being in Baruch.
