Angela’s Blog Post #4

For my Enrichment Workshop I went to the Rubin Museum. Honestly, it did not inspire me in any personal way but as a person that likes to appreciate different art, I did enjoy some aspects of my visit. Firstly, I was surprised by how well the art pieces were conserved. Seeing some of the art thousands of years old helped me realize how art has no specific time span but it is a long lasting representation/form of expression.
Also, the visit to the museum helped me learn a little bit more about different cultures e.g. Tibetan culture or about the ritual aspects of the Buddhist tradition.

In general, looking at new art can be a great learning tool. Although it didn’t directly inspire me, it did encourage me to be more aware of different art expressions belonging to different time periods and cultures. Art is a form of expression that I will always respect. A great communication tool that everybody should try to use to convey important messages.

Making things happen. Angela’s #3 blog post

making-things-happen

Making things happen. That is what my Baruch experience has been so far. I believe most of us have set goals for ourselves. We may not definitely know what we want or where we want to be, but we definitely now where or who we DON’T want to be. In my case I have a pretty good idea of what I want and were I want to be and in order to get there, I have to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. My time so far at Baruch has been very complete! It has been fun and special as well as challenging and different. In all, much better than expected.

My boundaries are being pushed every day and I find my self learning new things every single moment about myself and the people around me. I’m growing as a person and learning from my mistakes, because not everything has been excellent. I’ve found myself struggling with some courses.Nevertheless, that is partly why the experience is being so rewarding.

This semester in Baruch represents the beginning of a journey. I have no time to waste. I want to continue growing, strive for more and never stop MAKING THINGS HAPPEN.

Blog Post #2 by Angela Feliciano

I’m part of the Styled Society: A global Revolution group. We chose fashion as our topic because Baruch is a school with a lot of diversity, and this is translated not only in diversity of race, religion or culture, but also in diversity of clothing and fashion styles with international influences. Fashion is something that affects everybody. It’s a current topic that influences everybody in many different aspects. I looked for fashion articles with an International perspective.

The first article was an article about an African fashion event. I chose this event because I think that the African fashion is perhaps not as globally recognized as others even though I believe its beautiful and lively and its part of the worlds’ heritage.

The second article was an article about Milan’s fashion week. It talked about how the fashion week had a focus on the relationship between the cinema and fashion. I chose this article because I believe it touches two art topics (cinema and fashion) that are strongly present in our society. I think its interesting how these two fields mix into one in the article.

I think both articles are a representation of mixing of different cultures and areas (like fashion and cinema) and a representation of unity, which is some way, are things that are also represented/present in the Baruch campus.

Welcome to Angela’s world

Hi everybody! I’m Angela but I think (hope) you know that:) I hope you get to know me a little better after this blog post!

This first picture shows where I use to live. Tenerife, Canary Islands. Beautiful place, but as you may see, very different to New York. Although I was born in Madrid and raised there until I was 10, I can say Tenerife is my home. I’ve lived some of my best moments in that island, met some of the best people I’ll ever meet. Tenerife will definitely be part of my life forever.

FAMILY. What an important thing. I have them to thank, for EVERYTHING.
This picture shows the 5 most important women in my life: my mom, Itziar, my sister Paula, my niece, Danielle and my two dogs, Chiqui and Cocó.
Let’s not forget about my brother (in-law). He’s one of the most important men in my life. He’s been part of my life since I was 10 years old and I cannot thank him enough for everything he’s done for me.

Here’s the other two: My father and grandfather.

My father is the main reason why I decided to move here to New York. Although he hasn’t been physically with me during these years, I’ve never felt his absence. He has been the best father I could have asked for.

This is my grandfather or as I call him, ‘Lalo’. Although he is no longer with me, his fighting, enthusiastic spirit stayed with me. He has been an inspiration.
Now lets talk about my friends. Family is everything for me but friends are too. These are my best friends. They drive me crazy (sometimes) but they have been by my side in the good and the bad moments. We like to have a good time, anywhere and everywhere. It could be going to the movies, laying down watching TV, going to the beach, shopping (by the way, all things that I like doing), as long as we are together. These pictures were taken the day of my 18th Birthday. It was my first birthday with them as I normally spend it here in New York and I have to admit; They really treated me like a princess!
