I’m part of the Styled Society: A global Revolution group. We chose fashion as our topic because Baruch is a school with a lot of diversity, and this is translated not only in diversity of race, religion or culture, but also in diversity of clothing and fashion styles with international influences. Fashion is something that affects everybody. It’s a current topic that influences everybody in many different aspects. I looked for fashion articles with an International perspective.
The first article was an article about an African fashion event. I chose this event because I think that the African fashion is perhaps not as globally recognized as others even though I believe its beautiful and lively and its part of the worlds’ heritage.
The second article was an article about Milan’s fashion week. It talked about how the fashion week had a focus on the relationship between the cinema and fashion. I chose this article because I believe it touches two art topics (cinema and fashion) that are strongly present in our society. I think its interesting how these two fields mix into one in the article.
I think both articles are a representation of mixing of different cultures and areas (like fashion and cinema) and a representation of unity, which is some way, are things that are also represented/present in the Baruch campus.
