NO-CARD

Blog Post #2

For, the New York Times project, our theme was transportation.  Our group chose this theme because transportation affects our everyday lives whether we are taking the train, taking the bus or driving a car to places we need to go.  Also, most students in Baruch commute so transportation do affect us. We want to bring attention to the issues we are having with transportation systems and how we can better them.  For example, most people want Wi-Fi underground so that its convenient and it is useful in case of emergency.  Another example is creating bike lanes for the cyclist in the busy streets of Manhattan.  Another can be improving the subway system so that it runs efficiently and be on time. This  allows students to get to class on time and allow people to get to work on time. We also want to focus on some of the good things, such as China’s safe and efficient train systems.  We always want to find improvements to benefit the people in society and have things ran efficiently.

My name is Michelle Chan and the ten songs I chose is a representation of who I am.  Each song tells a story of my past and how the past changed me to become the person I am today.

The songs, “Skyscraper,” “Titanium,” and “Sticks and Stones” have similar meanings.  They are about overcoming the struggles, rising above people and not letting anyone bring you down.  I was bullied a lot when I was younger and it made me an insecure person.  As I got older, I realized that people bully others because they sought attention and they probably had lower self esteem.  I stop letting people and words get to me so I ignore it because I know I’m the better person. With the help from my family and friends, I’ve became a stronger person.  I don’t let a lot of things bother me and I’ve became more confident with who I am.

“Never Close Our Eyes” and “If Today Was Your Last Day” is about living life to the fullest and that is what I am currently doing.  If there are opportunities, I go for them.  I don’t hold myself back anymore and becoming carefree. “It’s A New Day” has a similar meaning, which is embracing life and seizing the day, despite the issues.  To me, each day is a brand new start and I make the best of out it. In “Circle,” Tino Coury points out that life can be confusing and hard, but you have to go on with life.  Life is too short to hold on to everything and sometimes you need to let things go.  I used to take everything to heart, and I ended up getting hurt.  I realized later on that it was too much work to satisfy everyone so, I only hold on to the people I treasure most.

“Breakaway” is about leaving the familiar behind and experiencing life the way you want and learn from your mistakes.  My parents are really strict and try to keep me under their watch all the time.  I tend to not listen and go off in my own way and experience what life has offered me.  Now, my parents are slowly releasing the tight grip they had on me and understand that I must experience things on my own for me to truly believe what I see. “Dark Side” points out that no one is perfect and they have a “dark” side of them.  I agree with the statement, “no one is perfect.”  Everyone has their flaws and I know I have mine.  I had a rough past and there are reasons why I react to things a certain way.  “Silhouette” is about being an outline.  I used to be the person that was “just there” or be part of the crowd.  Now that I am more confident of whom I am, I express myself freely.

This playlist express the type of person I am and I hope you like the music!
