Who is Serena? :D

Howdy peeps.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Serena, and I’m supposed to be your worst nightmare new friend. I am really excited to be able to go to Baruch College with everyone here. (As you can tell, I’m really friendly) I love going on trips and doing volunteer work. I donate a good dose of B positive every six months, and I wrap presents for good children during Christmas.

I don’t have an interest in any particular field or major, and I don’t have an idea of what I would like to do in the future. The reason is because the world is just full of possibilities. I have lived in New York City for the majority of my life, and it has made me realized that just about anything is possible with the amount of opportunities found here. You could say that I’m quite indecisive. It takes me 30 minutes to decide what I want to order if I go to a new restaurant (I wish I was joking). This feeling of indecisiveness is similar to that of Sylvia Plath’s character in The Bell Jar. The Bell Jar happens to be one of my favorite books because of how relatable the protagonist is, but unlike the her, I am not that depressing. I’m more optimistic because I like to think that there is a silver lining in every bad situation, not matter how awful, heart-wrenching, sad, disgusting, disturbing, and/or depressing it is. I also consider myself to be quite jolly because I love scaring children during Halloween and watching people get pranked.

I have a part-time job as a cashier. I work because I want to lessen the financial burdens on my parents. I love my parents, but I also want to be considerate of how they pay for nearly everything in my life. I want to help out my family as much as I possibly could before being able to help support them myself. My parents have taught me that being considerate of others is a part of being respectful, which is what I try to keep in mind every time I interact with people I’m not familiar with.

I also consider myself to be adventurous. I have been told that when I was younger, I’ve been to Hong Kong and the countryside in China, but in all honesty, I can’t remember a thing! That is why when I have the chance later in life, I would like to visit the places where my parents and ancestors came from and the many more places where they never even went. This probably shows how ambitious I could be; I often bite off more than I can chew when it comes to short-term and long-term goals.

FRO Post #1

Alright, more introduction. Hi, I am Jacky Lau and these are images of personality traits that I assume everyone believes that I have. If you know which of the small number of people in the class is me, you can already tell that I am quiet and calm. I don’t really speak unless spoken to. Despite this, I am very curious about everyone as for who they are and what interests them. I can be very reliable with any reasonable task that’s given to me. I am usually focused in class and can be trusted to give you information on what material we covered, in case you were absent. I have also included diligent and inactive as part of the image set.  Although these two words contradict each other,  I am a mixture of these traits since I can be hard-working while working on assignments at home while at the same time, lethargic on topics that I consider uninteresting or something that I prefer to learn ahead. And finally, you can see that I am very unique, based on what you can see here. I hope we can have an enjoyable semester together.

Freshman Seminar: Post One

Playlist

Hey guys, what’s up? My name is Josue Mendez and I’m extremely excited to spend the rest of this semester with you guys and at Baruch. So far, Baruch has really treated me well and I’m glad to have gone here. A quick bit of background info, I was born and raised in New York City. I’m a huge movie and basketball fan, and music is a big part of my life. I don’t know where I’d be about my music. I’m a big fan of hip hop though I love any kind of music as long as it sounds great. So let’s start talking about the playlist I’ve been together. Putting together ten songs that explains who I am and what I believe in was pretty difficult, but after some time I think I finally found the perfect playlist.

To start off, I’ve been called a great storyteller by all my friends. I’ve turned small, stupid stories into long, lengthy tales with full descriptions and whatnot. That’s why I decided to include songs by Notorious BIG and Kendrick Lamar, who are both considered to be masterful storytellers and I look up to them for inspiration. Biggie’s song is actually called “Sky’s the Limit” and I’m a big supporter of that quote; I feel if you truly want something and dream day and night about it, then there’s nothing in the way that can stop you. I’ve been living by that quote as of late and I really won’t let anyone stop me in my pursuit (“La La La”).

I was raised as a Christian and it has really influenced my life greatly, especially in my teenage years (which is why I added a song by Lecrae). High school was pretty rough for me, especially when I was an lower classmen as it took some getting used to being a Christian in a predominantly non-Christian school. Now, while I wouldn’t say I’m as religious as I once was, the principles I grew up with still have a lasting impact on my life.

Just some other small facts about myself: I love sweaters (“Sweater Weather”). While I love the summer more than any other season, I also love wearing sweaters and I can never wait till the fall comes just for that one reason alone. I seriously consider New York City the best city in the world and I wouldn’t replace it with any other (“New York Times”). Also, I tend to daydream a lot and wonder about situations that could possibly never happen, or create stories that I could one day translate into a feature film in case I ever become a movie director (“I Wonder”).

Anyways, that’s a little about me and how the playlist I created relates to my life. I can’t wait to spend the rest of the semester with all of you!

Hey y’all! What’s up? My name is Mohammed Ahmed and yes, the name “Mohammed” is very common, but the qualities that I believe I have, make me a bit unique. To begin my blog post, I just want to say that the transformation from high school to college has hit me hard. However, I have the ability to grow as a person and Freshmen Seminar, along with all of you guys, my classmates, will be the foundation to my growth.
Among the many qualities that I stated I have, there are three that hold more significance to me as an individual. They are honesty, loyalty, and respect. To form a bond with a person, these qualities should be prevalent. One should respect another and should also be treated with the same respect back. Freshmen Seminar has just began and I already feel welcomed to the class. This “welcoming” feeling given from the class, as well as from the professors, helps me to understand that I am not alone and that I have people who I can count on to make my college journey start on a good note. Determination and ambition are my drive, and these qualities make me obtain my goal in a resounding matter. One goal that I have in Freshmen Seminar is to become a successful college student and this can be possible through the help that I receive from my classmates as well as from professors in an interactive fashion. To conclude this blog post, I just want to let you guys know that I am very happy-go-lucky person. This means that I like to be and stay positive minded as well as make others feel the same. I believe that happiness is the one true component in defining a person. A positive and goal-oriented attitude can lead one a long way.

Freshman Seminar First Post – Wilson Hinh

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Freshman+Seminar/100863591

My name is Wilson Hinh and I am happy to be able to be with this group of classmates this semester and in the future at Baruch. I am a very casual person and easy to relate to. All my life I believed that there are people who come into your life for a reason, which is why I chose to treasure and hold on to them as long as I had them. For my classmates here at Baruch, I feel as though you are my classmates for a reason and not only to sit in the same rooms as me. People tend to notice that I am very easy to get close to and I am somebody who dislikes the awkward atmosphere and would rather be cool as soon as we meet. In the playlist that I have there are many songs that surround this idea of friendship and always being there. After getting to know me for a while you may notice that I am rather selfless and will become a very reliable person in the future. Whether I would be needed for school work or another issue, I would usually be the one people would go to.

Some people may think that this seems like a personality that would be easily taken advantage of, but I believe that I am simply serving my purpose as a friend to another. Whether they give back or not, I try to think that I am one of the few options they have. I am someone who has high levels of tolerance and does not get mad that easily because that just sounds like too much work. I am such a laid back person that even the voice I speak in is monotone, since using multiple tones also sounds like too much work. I do not have many hobbies that I like to do, but I have priorities towards the ones that are very low in the requirements of physical activity. I hope that I could reach out to the rest of the classmates and be of some use to them over the period at which I know them. I also hope that it makes sense to you guys as to why I unusually put the lazy song within my playlist. I try not to be a monotonous person just because I am monotone, thank you for reading my monologue.

Freshman Seminar Post One

Hello new classmates! Let me start by stating that it is a great honor to share a Freshman Seminar class with all of you. I cannot wait to hear and learn more about all of you individually. However, as of now, let me tell you all a little about myself, and the person I think I’ll portray  to the class. I’ll begin by saying that I am a rather witty person. I tend to be very clever and quick with my words, and even somewhat sarcastic at times. I enjoy making people laugh and smile, which almost ties in with my next quality, which is caring. When someone isn’t feeling well, in any sense, I will always lend my hand out and my upmost effort into making them feel better. In addition to this, I view myself as a rather understanding person. No matter what the situation is, I won’t judge someone, instead I will listen and be able to tolerate their issues, and offer my sympathy. Outside of my personality, there are several things in life that I find a passion for, and enjoy very much. One of these passions, perhaps the greatest, is sports. I am an extremely athletic young man, and playing or even watching sports are very relaxing to me. Sports have also been a great way for me to meet new people, and relate to others who enjoy them. I have played almost any sport that you could name, but my favorite has to be soccer. Soccer is a very worldwide sport, which ties into my other life enjoyment, which is traveling. I love going to other countries and having the experiences of other cultures and seeing what the world is like outside of America. Lastly, and possibly the most important that I would assume all of us value is education. It may sound crazy to many, but I enjoyed my years at high-school very much, and am grateful that I was able to receive such a good education and come to Baruch to further my studies. I look forward to an exciting freshman year here on Lexington Ave, and getting to everyone a little better.

The pictures above help represent what my opinion of what I mean to my classmates. I try to lighten up the air with a few jokes to break the ice as it is hard to start a conversation with new people sometimes. I also like to humble myself to anyone that needs anyone to talk to about their problems or is just going through a bad day. I also think that I can help teach but at the same time learn from my classmates as we adjust to the Baruch culture. I am also a big sports fan which helps me relate and discuss a topic I am interested about with my classmates. Finally, I feel that I am a calm and laid back person that doesn’t like to make a big deal or start problems with anyone. These pictures speak to who I am because the main ideas of these pictures represent traits that are a reflection of me.

Blog Post #1- Due September 16th at 9:30 am

Hi everyone!

Your first blog post is to create a two minute video, an eight image slide show, or a ten song musical playlist that represents who you think you are to your classmates. Embed your creation in a blog post and then write a post of no more than 500 words, but please write something substantial included why you decided on the type of post, and explaining how what you’ve created speaks to who you are.

Also remember to comment on three of your classmates posts.

Email me if you have any problems posting!
