First Semester

My first semester at Baruch has been a whirlwind of everything. From commuting to school in the morning to the vast array of after school activities that I’ve taken part in everything has been a wonderful new experience. I’ve made so many new friends and I feel like there’s no way the semester could be this close to the end. I’ve only been here for a few months and it’s almost time for winter break. I don’t know if I feel ready to be on my own in all my classes without the warm faces of all my friends from my block, it will be strange to not spend every afternoon with them complaining about how horrible calc is but I guess that’s just a part of the college life. I’m really excited for next semester, but honestly I can’t wait to put down the blur of books I’ve been surrounded with and just relax for the entire month of January.

Daniela Tamarova: Monologue

So this is college. Who knew that for the first half of my freshmen year I’d be with the same people and actually have the chance to make some great friends. College really isn’t anything like the movies portray it though, it’s magical and completely different in almost every single way. College for me is a world of responsibilities, opportunities and freedoms that I never had before. I grew up in Brooklyn and always went to small schools. My elementary, middle, and high school only had about a thousand kids each and most of my friends journeyed with me through each grade. Besides my group of friends, dancing was also a very big part of my life and it stayed with me through the years. But ever since college started I simply have not had the time for dancing. I only visited my studio 3 times in the past couple of months, which is a disgrace considering I used to spend at least 6 hours a week there. The girls and boys who I grew up with at dance, are people who I now rarely see even though they mean so much to me. Dance taught me a lot about myself and brought me to a place I can basically call home. My high school was also a place in which I felt very comfortable. I had great friends, which I had known from elementary school; phenomenal teachers, who were willing to help with any issue; and even an Assistant Principal who I can call anytime for whatever reason. I hope that Baruch can become a new home for me too since I will be spending much of my next four years there. I also hope that I can take advantage of the opportunities given to me at Baruch and have the time of my life while studying my butt off to achieve all that I know I am capable of.

Daniela Tamarova

Hi guys! I’m Daniela Tamarova and I chose to create a musical playlist that I think describes me. This musical playlist may not show you exactly who I am, but I think it shows who I want to be. I started with Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” because it is not only one of the most inspirational songs I know but it is also a very big part of my childhood. I spent my summers at a summer camp where this song was almost like a motto so it just stuck with me through life. It always helped me remember that I will survive no matter what. “Fighter” is another song that also helps me remember that I am stronger than whatever life throws at me. I picked the songs by Boney M. and ABBA not only because they are upbeat and cheery. I also chose them because I have been dancing since I was three years old and “Dancing Queen” was always my favorite track to dance to when I was a toddler. “Sonny” was actually one of the first songs that I performed to when I was younger so it has a special place in my heart. The songs “Born This Way” and “Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That” help me remember that everyone is different and perfect in their own way. I am a firm believer that neither I nor anyone around me has the right to judge anyone else and these songs are a perfect reflection of that. The songs “Man In The Mirror”, “Dare You”, and “Chasing Cars” are very inspirational for me. “Man In The Mirror” sends a message of bettering yourself before judging others and “Dare You” is like a challenge to get up and do something. “Chasing Cars” and “I’ll Be There For You” are not just about being supportive but also about having great friends and being a great friend. I chose these two songs because I like to think that I am a great friend and I know that if any of my friends needed my help with anything, I would be there for them. I hope the playlist gives you a little bit of insight into the type of person that I am.

Songs That Describe Me
