Studying

This meme describes my semester perfectly. Doing homework and studying for tests is all I did this semester. The nights before tests or a essay due are the worst. Studying till 3am on some nights and waking up at 6 for school left me feeling dead. This semester was an endless marathon of work! To be honest I did not expect to have quizzes every time I had class, an essay or two due every week, and hours of reading assignments. I found that it is very hard to balance a social life and school with the amount of work every class requires.  I am very excited and looking forwards to having a break.

College? More like KNOWLEDGE! Because I gained so much of it! Am I right?! As my hilarious meme will show, I came into college expecting to fail out in a semester. Looking back, I guess that was a good attitude because it forced me to study a lot to ensure I wouldn’t fail. Turns out it was much easier than I thought it would be. I am doing in well in most of my classes. I will hopefully obtain an A in every one of my classes, as long as finals go well. (I’ve just gotta make sure MTH 1030 doesn’t hold me back!) This semester was also great outside of the classroom. I moved into the dorm residence on 97th street and finally got away from the farms of South Jersey. I love the city and moving away has been a great experience. I plan to never leave New York after experiencing all I did this first semester. Never did I think I’d be reading a poem in front of 1000+ people or playing all the music I do in the city. I didn’t even imagine I’d meet all the great friends I did in college. First semester, you did well, but I think it’s safe to say I kicked your ass.

I will survive!

So this GIF is me in every class. All of a sudden I realize nothing has registered of what the professor has said. COLLEGE LIFE EVERYONE. You can’t always have it your way and you will definitely not understand everything right away. On the flip side, there are many resources you can use in order to alleviate scenarios like this. For me, I have a great group of friends who always keep me on my toes and up to date with all my classes. Classes are overwhelming, but if you have a great support system, it does work out in the end. College is preparing you to handle things independently and in a flexible manor so you will be ready to survive in the “real world”. So whether your professors don’t know how to slow down when they speak, or you simply just don’t understand, remember you can still do it. Find people who will help you on your journey. Believe me, the support will help you in the end!!!

Before attending college, I would have never considered myself a procrastinator. The thought of walking up the morning before to do an assignment, or staying up all night to try and finish an essay always encouraged me to do my work as soon as it was assigned. I have now come up with more creative ways to put off an assignment than how to finish one. Anything and everything has become a distraction, to the point where during midterms week I got rid of every app off my phone that was deletable, which only encouraged me to Google why iPhone’s won’t let you delete every app. Who created apps? What about emojis? Are those socially acceptable to use in everyday conversation? Basically, I have developed slowly but surely became not only a procrastinator, but an expert in the history of the iPhone.  Although this is not a positive development, it has allowed me to reflect upon myself and realize that although I need to stop procrastinating, I can start letting some things go and relax with my school work. Not  everything needs to get done right away, and nothing has to be perfect, because that’s impossible. In order for me to realize how I function best, I needed to work at my worst.

My first semester in college was not what I expected. I knew that college involved a lot of hard work and dedication, but aside from the hard work, I wanted a “real college experience”, like they show in movies. Since I’m not dorming, I instantly became unmotivated. I wanted to go away for college but my parents wouldn’t let me. an ideal college experience for me does NOT involve waking up two hours before my class begins or an hour train-ride and the 15 block walk from my house to the train everyday twice a day. Baruch wasn’t my first choice either so that just made matters worse. The classes aren’t as difficult as I thought it would be though, but it does require a lot of effort and hard work. I spend a lot of late nights studying and doing papers and homework the night before its due. Balancing out my personal life and school life became difficult, but often id have to pass on going out and take responsibilities. Being here, I did meet some great people who made coming little more worth while. as time goes by, I’m becoming more accustomed to the college life and its not as much as a drag as it was the first few weeks. Now I have more of a positive outlook on life and I am open to try new things and seek more opportunities.
