Me in Song

As a musician, the 10 song playlist was an obvious choice. However, It’s hard to find songs that “represent who I think I am.” So I tried to find songs that I really related to, rather than just my favorite songs. I really relate to the first song “Of Space and Time” because it speaks about the wandering feeling that goes hand-in-hand with massive life changes- specifically the songwriter leaving his band of 10 years. While it may sound like a small thing, I’ve played in a band for 7 years and I’ve thought about leaving once or twice- this makes the song even more relevant. The second song is a song I’ve written and released with my band–I’d love feedback by the way. It talks about realizing a struggle you’re going through is self-inflicted, and how to deal with that: another topic that resonates with me. The third was written by a friend Henry Menzel of Survay Says!, the song talks about the various reactions we have to pain and hardship (I.e denial), all the lyrics really hit home! The 4th song really hits me more musically than lyrically, the chords, melody, and feel all really get to me. The 5th song is another song I had the opportunity to play on called “God of Mercy”. It was written and recorded by my church, but unfortunately hasn’t been released, so if anyone wants to hear it let me know!! I won’t go too heavily into detail on my faith, but it’s extremely important to me and that song is an immense representation of faith to me. Liebeslied is a classical piece- a verybeautiful one I might add -and also one of my favorites that I’ve ever played. When trying to represent all of me I felt it necessary to include my nerdy classical side haha. The 7th and 8th songs I also relate more to musically rather than lyrically. Both “Army” and “Good Times Bad Times” were my favorite songs for a few years and their sentimental value is too high to leave them out. The 9th is important to me because of the memories of growing up listening to it constantly, and it’s lyrical content is fantastic! The 10th and final has little lyrical importance to me but is possibly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and helped me maintain sanity throughout hours of writing papers at Nassauce Community College. Welp! There ya go, me in 10 songs!
