Blog Post #3- Miki Minami

My first three months of college have been great. I learned a lot and ventured outside of my high school ways. At first, the thought of college completely scared me. I was going to a place that I didn’t know anyone and it felt like I was finally going into a real adult world. When the first week of school came along, I was very nervous. During the first few days, it was so awkward seeing the same faces in every class, but not talking to anyone. After a while, the class started to talk to each other and we all became good friends. I still remember the day that we all went out to lunch for the first time during our four hour break. It was a fun experience because I felt like it was a true bonding moment. I have heard so many bad things about college so I was scared to meet new people, but when I actually experienced it for myself, everyone was so friendly. One of the main things I learned is how to open up to new people. Looking back now, it’s weird to think that we were all complete strangers. I think that if it weren’t for this Fro Family, my college experience would not have been as good as it was. The workload in my classes was another thing I was worried about. I tend to procrastinate and in high school I would just get by doing minimal work. In college, I learned that I actually have to try hard and study in order to get good grades. Something that helped me study more and not procrastinate were the study rooms that the Fro Family would rent. We would all study for upcoming tests or just go to the room to talk and relax. Before attending school, I was so nervous and scared and had the worst in my mind, but I think the first three months of school went the best that it would have possibly went.

Monologue

One day when I was seven years old, I was so excited.

I was going to get my first pet.

I went to the pet store and bought one fish for me.

I named it Angel.

I fed it everyday and played with it every hour.

One day I noticed that my fish wasn’t moving.

It was dead.

I cried all night.

This was the first time I experienced death.

I will never forget my Angel.

Hi, my name is Miki. I am eighteen years old and I am from Queens, NY. I posted eight pictures that I think describe me and the things I like. The first picture is a baby picture of my siblings and I. I have a brother who is three years older than me named John and a sister who is one year older than me named Yuki. We all have a pretty close relationship even though we do not see each other all the time. Even though they are away at college, we always try to find time to talk. Family is very important to me because my family has always been there for me through everything. The second picture is of my sister and I. Since we are only one year apart, we can relate easily. The third picture is a picture of Game of Thrones, which is my favorite television show. I think the show is highly entertaining and always keeps me on the edge of my seat. The fourth picture is of a bunch of snacks. I like to snack on random foods throughout the day. I also like to try new foods, which is something I do with my sister often. My classmates will know that I am constantly eating during classes. The fifth picture is a picture of my dog. Her name is Gooroom, which means cloud in Korean. I had her for almost three years now and she is the best dog ever. She is always so happy to see me and it makes me happy too. The sixth picture is a picture of my cat, Dorian Greyson Cat, or Dori for short. I adopted him as a kitten a little over a year ago and he has grown so much. When I first got him, the lady told me he was a girl, but then he grew up and turned into a boy. The seventh picture is of a Kid Cudi concert I went to a little over a year ago. He is my favorite artist and he produces amazing music. Cudi’s song are very relatable and deep and his sound is very unique, which is why I like him.He is more of a visual and creative thinker, which I can relate too. The eighth picture is of a thrift store. I got into fashion in my freshmen year of high school and have been loving it ever since. I like to shop and put together outfits. Something that I like to do is go to the thrift store. I like finding unique pieces that no one else has and mixing them into my wardrobe. I try to get friends and family to go with me, and even take my grandpa with me sometimes. Even though it is hard to know me through just eight photos, I hope I can get to know everyone better in person.
