In the link above I have chosen eight pictures that I think best describe who I am and what qualities and characteristics describe me. The first picture is of Pinocchio, although he represents lying, represents the opposite for me, which is that I am a very honest person. The next picture of a person doing a trust fall represents that I am very trustworthy. I will always “catch you when you fall” and I will keep any private information or secrets that you disclose to me with me until the day I die. The third picture is of a shining light bulb stuck between dull light bulbs. This is representative of my positivity; I am always trying to see the good in situations and will try to pass on that positivity to others. The fourth picture is of a man laughing. This symbolizes two aspects of myself that include; how I like to make others laugh as well as my own love to laugh. I think laughing is very important to staying happy and healthy and I try to laugh at least once each day. The fifth picture of the frog lying on its back is representing that I am a very easy-going person. I don’t tend get very wound up about things and take things in stride. The sixth picture of the fruits and vegetables is symbolizing that I like to eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. I believe that one of the few things you have in life is your health and you should care for it like you do a baby. The seventh picture of the fish jumping out of his tank into another is symbolizing my ambition. I am always looking to the future and believing that not only myself, but also others can achieve great things. The last picture is of a man with the top of his head open. This is representing that I am an open-minded person. I like to hear other’s opinions and views and do not denounce them if they conflict with my own. I like to try to hear others thoughts and try to find inspiration from others.

All About Me, David Scholes

This video tells people a lot about me.  First, it tells people that i’m creative, as seen by the amazing production quality.  It also lets people know tons of information about my life.  It tells people that I have a sense of humor, and also lets them know where i’m from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (upstate).  Also, it lets people know some of my interests, especially swimming which is a huge part of my life.  It lets people know that my family is very important to me, and gives people simple things such as my favorite color, and my love for America.  The entire video is  a journey through my life, it displays my current environment, and my past environment.  It shows how people change and adapt to new environments.  This video is crucial in learning who I am, David Scholes.

I leave you with a poem, by MAYA ANGELOU

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Post One, Who am I ?

Greetings,

My name is Vincent, but most of you probably already know that, and I ride fixed gear bicycles. A Fixed gear bicycle is by definition, is a bicycle that has a drivetrain with no freewheel mechanism. In other words its a single-gear bicycle that has no freewheel, so that its wheels cannot move unless power is applied to the pedals. Riding bicycles has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I began riding bikes with my Dad though Central Park when I was about 8 years old. Last year, I joined the fixed gear community after purchasing my first fixed gear bike for my 16th birthday. Immediately, cycling became apart of my daily life; riding to and from school as a means of transportation, riding for exercise, and  riding just for the fun of it. I don’t know what it is but riding through the streets of New York City emits a certain formidable sensation, whether it be riding down 5th Avenue racing a Taxi,  weaving through traffic during rush hour, and or riding with no brakes. In short, riding bikes has become a part of me, and if you know me personally, you can attest to that.

Chun Ho Li – Post One

Hi, I am Chun Ho Li, a current freshman at Baruch College. It was christmas vacation, 2013, I volunteered in an enrichment center. Despite the fact that I was 17, it was my very first volunteering experience.

All people, in some measure, all consider themselves superior to others. People generally view themselves above average, it is a cognitive, known as the illusory superiority; and honestly, I am no exception. Being the oldest and the favored child, I am the center, the main focus of my family. I had no plans for myself, but what have I to fear, when everything I ever needed was already planned out by my parents. Nonetheless, these thoughts all changed dramatically.

I volunteered to be a teacher’s assistant. Not only did this reverse my role of always being looked after, but also dramatically changed my sense of obligation. I was assigned to class third grade yellow. I took a deep breath, to sedate my heart beats and to focus my thoughts. With artificial confidence, I entered the classroom. “They are on page sixty two, help them with the questions,” the teacher commanded. It was distressing and awkward; however, as a teacher’s assistant, I felt like I had influence over the twenty two third graders in the class.

“Can I use the bathroom?” “Can I refill my water bottle?” “Can I not eat my lunch?” Receiving all kinds of question, I stuttered my words. My courage slowly waned in front of the students’ glances. Suddenly, my mind was vacant, devoid of all thoughts. Wandering around in vacancy, I lost track of time. Moments later, the bell sounded. It eased my mind and brought me back to reality; I was ashamed.

I was not mentally ready. Through this opportunity, I noticed what I was missing; responsibility and obligation. I had always held myself accountable for a higher standard than anybody expects of me. However, a year ago, I had no plan for colleges, jobs, or internships. I lived most of my life being looked after by my parents, but no more. I realized the need to make my own decisions and that there is no way of evading responsibility. The rest of that summer, I spent my time volunteering, to further prepare myself for the future.

With that sudden realization, taking action became essential and natural. My decisions could cause me accolades or consequences. However, not make any at all; I would definitely suffer the outcome. No more living in the shadow of my parents love. Everyone is responsible for his own life and I will ensure I make the best out of mine. I am now stronger and ready for any challenge at Baruch College.
